J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 28/09/2026We've had the term AI being used to describe computer's doing some kind of analysis for over 7 decades now. The last few years of development have lowered the level of effort it takes to get the system to do an analysis, but it is not in any way actual intelligence or remotely close to sentience. 021
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Then after I paid, they would not deliver the package as the delivery person's device said aI still owed the full amount. I called 3 days in a row with the support folks telling me that things had been corrected only for the driver to see on their device the false info that I had not paid. 001
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Had fun last week trying to get a package from UPS. I ordered some things from the UK and knew there would be a tariff and fees, but the amount was crazy. It was over 75% of the total purchase. Found information to contest the fess, and they lowered the amount. However, it was still exorbitant. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Ok, even more crazy, I forced restarted and finally it accepted the code. I get the time out for repeated attempts thing is to prevent thieves from hacking into your system, but increasing it when you only made 3 tries and then again after only one try is too much. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 10/08/2026This is insane, my ipad is not recognizing my passcode. I was prompted to enter the code for an upgrade and now it is locked out for 5 mins after failing 3 times and waiting 1 minute and then trying again. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 09/08/2026There is of course an episode where the artist/murderer paints a portrait of him. Aptly titled Murder, A Self Portrait. The finished painting is displayed at the end. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 09/08/2026They have designed it more around finding and buying experience than the listening experience. To be fair they also have provided more ways to organize what you have, but that just makes it more complicated. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 09/08/2026When I had to switch to Windows for a job back early in my career I said to my boss, “Do not ask for me to ever print anything”. Having helped friends try to get their Windows computers to print sometimes took days. And sometimes we never got it to work. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 09/08/2026While I agree that any product that purports to solve all accessibility problems with overlays is garbage. The term overlay is a generic term that can refer to any number of different types of pop-up. Which can be made fully accessible. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Yes, a 0 open does not mean they haven’t opened. I configure my email to not show images for that and security reasons. Other than having unique IDs on links back to your site, I do not know of any way to know for sure if someone opened. Well there is read receipt, but that is heavy handed. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 30/06/2026The ones you use happen to redirect, others require the password. How would anyone know that password is not required? This is just as if not more confusing. 440
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/06/2026And maybe because the cost to entry is lower in software, more projects get started with a minimal plan or without any plan. Yet, when it comes to the physical world, even with more substantial panning, it is rare for a building to be completed on time and on budget. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Hah, yes indeed, I did enjoy that article. Thanks for sharing. What I would distinguish between software and physical building projects is the cost to entry generally starts out much lower in software. However, the best laid plans in either can easily and quickly go awry. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/06/2026I agree that the design process is not dead. However, I stopped listening when Pavel went into how manufacturing processes are well known & clear up front because you have a blue print and know all the materials needed before hand. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Have you read it? Because it is looking like it is the same age verification crap required by other government entities. It would be better if the state provided resources to help parents guide their children in safe access & use of online resources. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/06/2026I’m seeing a lot of criticism about AI and the impact it is having on design. Certainly AI deserves criticism, especially the unethical practices used to build it & in its use. However, it is just a tool. Like all tools before, it can be used in good & bad ways. It is not going to go away. 030
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Yes, I think it is worth it... I imagine a lot of folks need to do this as well. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 23/05/2026There is nothing more frustrating than an app having different paid tiers with core features missing on professional vs organizational plans. How would people get hired into an organization lacking experience with a core feature? 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 30/03/2026Many devs have always misunderstood css. They’ve never bothered to really learn it and things like react screw it up even more. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 15/03/2026It is absolutely due to Liquid glAss. The adoption would be much lower, but I have never seen as many nag prompts to “upgrade” that are intentionally made hard to dismiss as I have with this version. I finally got fooled into upgrading one device and would definitely roll back if I could. 231
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 14/03/2026Text formatting can have different intents and uses. Your regular paragraphs certainly are more about telling a story and setting a mood. The heavily formatted text is much easier to scan and refer to repeatedly which is needed in RPG. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 12/03/2026Really wish Figma’s browse version history allowed jumping back a whole year at a time. Super tedious clicking “Show Older” hundred times. 😖 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 04/03/2026Which is why I am pretty sure they did invest so heavily in Make. Turning things in to actual code at least allows for true interactions to be created. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 04/03/2026Figma’s prototyping is filled with idiosyncrasies. One of the main things when transitioning between two states is both components need to be identical including layer names and even don’t delete hidden contracted layers. There’s so much functionality, but it is so easy for it to break. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 14/02/2026More iOS 26 complaints… Safari’s address bar is now a minimalized, condensed mess. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 14/02/2026Welp, finally forced to degrade to iOS 26. Bought some new AirTags and they wouldn’t pair with the phone unless I updated. LiquidGlass is just garbage. Even with reduced transparency everything looks glorpy. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 25/01/2026I’ve seen other ads like this and I’m afraid to even click the “No”. Clearly they’re unethical enough to do this, they’d make tapping no still install some garbage. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 25/01/2026It really is just an overall failure and they refuse to admit it and refuse to offer proper accessibility options. They really gave up on usability and accessibility. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 28/12/2025Trying out Ubuntu 25 desktop and I have to say they have greatly improved the UX. Migrating a system that can’t upgrade to Windows 11. If you don’t need MS-Office, it really can do everything you would need it to do. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 07/12/2025Very nice… But it doesn’t carry through to the detail pages. I would also expect to see photos of both dark and light in a gallery on the detail pages. Also not sure how I like the sticky header with the ghost style menu button. Otherwise, overall very elegant work. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 29/11/2025Not supported in Firefox. 😟 I really don’t understand the web API if all browsers aren’t going to be supported. Why would any dev trust using this? 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 16/11/2025Well, not being able to read the article because its member only, I can only comment that I would not trust the output of algorithmic state colors If that is part of what is being suggested. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 09/11/2025This is the first time I am holding off updating in over two decades. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 12/10/2025It’s not just that, you also have uneven spacing throughout. Maybe the gap between the p and R is somewhat intentional, because they felt the capital R didn‘t set that apart enough? But it is just wrong. I assume the next admin will rename it after themselves if it continues to operate at all. 110
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 05/10/2025I’ve been holding off on updating because I just can’t believe they went ahead and released such garbage. 110
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 26/09/2025The person whose bonus and performance ranking are based on increased video watches. Doesn’t say anything about audio. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 20/09/2025So much agree. I’ve built a nice interactive dropdown component in our library using variables. However, I had to write lengthy instructions on how to set up local variables and rewire them so that the selection will work in designer’s local file. 020
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 29/08/2025We do not refer to designer or dev beyond what you need to get started. The content for components is divided into usage and code tabs. There will be times where a designer is interested in looking at code and devs need to understand usage. Labeling things for the role just did not make sense. 100
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 14/08/2025I do not want to talk to my pc! There are too many places where people in public are already annoying by talking loudly on their phones or playing media without headphones. Please no. 030
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 03/08/2025Been working on a website redesign for our design system. It’s built with sass and uses flex. I’ve forgotten how much I hate these. Everything is split across 10 files. Just a pain figuring out where something is defined. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 28/07/2025I really liked Publii for its simplicity. I did not like having only the app to edit and there being no iPadOS option. I really do not like Hugo, 11ty, and a bunch of others for the complexity. Wordpress also has gotten way too complicated and they ruined the editor. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 28/07/2025I went out of my way to include a wireframe mode for one of our theme modes along with light + dark modes. It uses handwritten fonts, thickens borders & removes color except for the primary interaction. We encourage designers to start & stay with the wireframe mode until they are ready for dev. 110
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 07/07/2025Wordpress has become a mess. I really dislike the block editor. I purposely went out of my way to find something simpler for my brother-in-law’s website. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 07/07/2025WTF LinkedIn, just no. If it’s not adding and pushing AI where it is not needed, then it’s adding arcade games to apps. Keeping the score private is no comfort. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 05/07/2025Don’t get me started on using a calendar picker for birthdate selection. 010
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 05/07/2025They are not going to get 2 people doing the work of 20 by using AI. And what they do get will be of a much lower quality. They just don’t care about their users or their employees any more. 000
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 05/07/2025They did this intentionally or was one of the ads taking over? Otherwise, yeah, no surprise in the drop in traffic. 110
J Lofton @loftsky.bsky.social · 04/07/2025This is so true… “because a lot of what we consider to be design decisions – interaction, animation, loading of data – can really only be prototyped in code.” Fully agree—It really needs to be a collaboration between designer and developer to create a great experience. 020
