Revisiting the 1990s
I've had a little unfocussed hobby time of late that I've used to revisit some old models and bring them up to my modern standards. As part ...

German player: I’ll charge the Romans in front of me. Umpire: You’re in bad going so you’ll be rolling 2d6 and removing the lower-scoring die. So you’re bound to get into contact. Roman player: Hang on -he’s got a point of Shock so he’s got to take off one inch. He might roll two ones….

I wanted a way to use my multi-based 6mm GNW models with The Pikeman’s Lament. I planned to use a D6 to track casualties but knew I’d be bound to forget which die should be with which unit. I’ve had a go at 3D printing some 60x30mm sabots with built in dice sockets.

Just purchased from Morrisons supermarket in the UK. “Home Style Super Soft Throw”. 125x150cm, listed as cream but I think usable as a snowy surface for winter games (maybe with some pale blue/grey sprayed-on shades). Only £3! Needs time for the creases to drop out. 1/72 Jagdpanther for scale.

You’re fully committed to the multiple bases approach then? Differently coloured mini dice to show losses and Shock?

Yes, there are certain game-runners who score disproportionately high. I thought it better to draw a discreet veil over such things.

If you’re coming to Ebor Lard next weekend and playing in my Infamy Infamy game, please check your email spam folder. I’ve sent round a quick questionnaire to probe players’ experience with the rules and the setting. Thanks!

I try to include at least one new item of terrain every time I run a game. This time there’s my Germanic thatched hut and some new marshy bits.

A learning game of Infamy Infamy today. The terrain’s been set up overnight and thankfully only one tree fell victim to the cat.

DBA has a really important position in the hobby. It was the turning point from the period of ludicrous complexity to elegant rules that achieved what they set out to do without needless crap. Yes, the wording was sometimes hard work but it represented a revolution in wargame design.

I know it’s the 6th of June and we should be doing a D-Day wargame but I really need to get the Gangs of Rome campaign moving forward.

With episode 1 of our Gangs of Rome campaign coming up this weekend, I wanted figures to represent the gangs’ patrons. Wargames Illustrated delivered with free minis on this month’s front cover. Tarquinius Caerilius imports beasts for the arena. Spurious Verdius is a lanista.

Near Morris, Mississippi the Union cavalry have charged a Confederate skirmish line in the rear and routed them. Unfortunately the Union infantry line in front of them are firing uncontrolled and the cavalry are slowed down by unexpectedly bad going! Blue on blue follows!
