One of my favourite localization bits I came up with for Kiln: "Massive Chalice" → "Ese cáliz, oé" I'm from Cádiz. @cadizcf.com fans chant "Ese Cádiz, oé". So yes, there's now a tiny bit of Cádiz hiding inside a @doublefine.com achievement. 😄
Kiln achievement icon for "Massive Chalice", shown as a large golden chalice character. The achievement is localized into Spanish (Spain) as "Ese cáliz, oé", a wordplay on the Cádiz CF chant "Ese Cádiz, oé".

A good localization decision starts before translation: who is speaking, why the line exists, what the player knows, and what the game needs to preserve. Context is not extra information. It is part of the text. #gamedev #localization

I backed Double Fine before I translated Double Fine. 😄 I just watched Elijah Wood name Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango and The Dig among his favourite games ever. Those are the games that made me want to work in games. 🧵

Freelancer brand. One translator. One parrot. 🦜 LocAsArt.com just grew some new feathers: a full visual refresh for my EN→ES (Spain) video game localization work. Not an agency. Just me, games & far too much context. 🎮 Know a dev who needs Spanish? Repost away! #GameDev #GameLocalization

The Doll Shop launches next week, and it's a nice reminder of why narrative adventures are so interesting to localize: atmosphere lives in tiny choices. A pause, a clue, a line of dialogue. Those details can carry as much weight as the plot itself.

A game can be days from launch and still have a language gap. That's why I keep an eye on demos and upcoming releases: localization opportunities often appear in the space between "nearly finished" and "ready for more players."

October's adventure calendar is packed. What always stands out to me as a localizer is how much these games depend on tiny choices: clue wording, comic timing, character voice. In adventures, one awkward line can do more damage than a typo.

DUAL PROTOCOL launches today: a noir mystery where two players solve the case by describing clues to each other. A neat reminder that in some games, wording isn't decoration - it's part of the mechanic. Those are the localization puzzles I love.

October is looking good for adventure games: Rennville, Synapse, Dreadline Express... My kind of month. :) These are the games where voice, clue wording and puzzle context really matter. That's exactly the kind of EN>ES (Spain) localization I love doing.

The hardest lines to localize are often the ones that look easiest. A three-word joke can carry character, rhythm, class, subtext and a callback from two hours earlier. Creative game localization starts with context, not dictionaries.
