Yes, and one of the biggest assumptions is that local food is a panacea. While ideologically appealing, it overlooks three critically important factors.

1. People underestimate the impact of food choices. Reference: Wikipedia - Ecological Efficiency: "The rational conclusion is that energy efficiency is best preserved by sourcing food as close to the initial energy source as possible."

2. People overestimate the impact of food miles. Reference: Our World in Data - Food Choice vs Eating Local: "Transport is a small contributor to emissions. For most food products, it accounts for less than 10%."

3. Every kind of animal agriculture is ecologically inefficient, requiring far more land and water than plant-based agriculture. Reference: Our World in Data - Land Use Diets: "If the world adopted a plant-based diet, we would reduce global agricultural land use from 4 to 1 billion hectares."

As such arguing for local food, without also advocating for a just transition to plant-based diets, is an ecologically incoherent bucolic fantasy. We cannot sustainably and equitably feed 8 to 10 billion humans meat-based diets. There are benefits to increased local food production, and small-scale intensive agriculture, particularly veganic permaculture. However, if you don't start your thinking about agriculture with an understanding of ecological efficiency, then you won't find a viable solution.
