I'm kind of shocked that the a councilor who does all the heavy lifting on police accountability is ranked so low... And the one who tried to cut from the top in 2024.. And tried to save a bunch of other positions like the racial equity position.... And then did the sanctuary city ordinance....

You seem REALLY excited to share with the class. Why don't you go ahead and detail why @kanalforportland.bsky.social , didn't get the @portlanddsa.bsky.social endorsement in 2024. You seem to be implying that the chapter doesn't support one of their most visible and effective elected comrades.

SERIOUSLY. I keep thinking it's a weird spoof/fake news thing, but then I look it up and ... nope... it's legit Hillsboro, Oregon.

I actually think the problem is non-progressive City Councilors - they tend to be far less open about their positions, and are unwilling to be seen as "agreeing" with the other side - particularly without getting something. And that type of transactional politics doesn't look great.

Councilors are acting like 40+ years of robust peer reviewed research doesn't exist. Political scientists LOVE studying political institutions and how they shape outcomes - it is well demonstrated that resources are critical for the effectiveness of legislative institutions. bsky.app/profile/lmp1...
