Sadly, I now know that chickens will caretake an injured flock member 🌱 A cat nearly killed one of our chicks (the black one). Two days after successfully defending the others, she was able to walk a few steps and reunite briefly with her sisters.

Three chicks check-in and tend to their injured flockmate in a yard next to chickenwire fencing and a dog crate's open door.

My youngest grew this from seed. 🌱 And has just peeled this California native for use in the shower. We will see how it holds up compared to a regular loofah.

We watched a ladybug lay these eggs as I planned out which new bitterleaf 🌱 cuttings to make! Also, the chickens have discovered the older bitterleaf cuttings and are jumping up to eat the leaves 😭🤣

Yesterday, while the chickens weeded and dust bathed, we brought out the solar telescope. The view was amazing. We tried to take a picture with a cellphone as the rig for proper astrophotography isn’t down here in Los Angeles.

Just spent the past hour & a half refueling, babying, and pulling out 12’s stuck 1952 Ford 8N tractor. In the rain. I had to be on autopilot because WHY were my husband and I the ones shoveling the mud back in the ruts while the kid regaled us with tractor lore and gossip about airlines 😭🤣
