Yes! Tell them you'll break for pizza halfway through. They won't think about Bollywood, cricket, or colonial tax collection in the same way again. (To say nothing of encouraging them to think in many interesting ways about how to "write" imperial lives)

Apparently AI will also save us from proper syntax. Shouldn't that last sentence be: "Because when everyone does, no one does"?

Is anyone following arrests and suspensions at Columbia and Barnard? Shafik is usually the focus but worth noting that Barnard Pres Rosenbury is responsible for the majority of student suspensions. As of now, roughly 2% of the Barnard student body has been suspended without investigation or hearing.

NEW: Nearly 150 Republicans in Congress asked the Supreme Court to slash access to the abortion pill by ending telehealth prescriptions—even in states w/ legal abortion. They cite the Comstock Act of 1873 which bans mailing abortifacients. Full list of lawmakers here: www.jezebel.com/145-gop-memb...

I would argue that women of color are bearing a disproportionate burden. www.nytimes.com/2023/09/30/h... The Times has run a number of stories over the past year about declining resources & maternal mortality among Black mothers.

Sounds like the makings of a great assignment-- what would a not-depressing (happy? hopeful? uplifting?)-- history look like? Can the student write one? It's a great way to investigate the relationship between evidence and opinion.
