Capitalism doesn’t need to be destroyed. It needs to work better. A healthy capitalist system should reward innovation, risk and investment—but also needs BROAD participation in the prosperity it creates. A rising tide should lift more than the yachts. IT SHOULD LIFT ALL, NOT JUST THE RICH 9/9

Meanwhile, the number of U.S. billionaires has exploded. Roughly 538 in 2015. More than 900 by 2025. Capitalism is still extraordinarily good at creating wealth. The question is: WHO is benefiting from that wealth creation? THE RICH 8/9

The middle class has also shrunk. Around 2000: Lower income: 28% Middle: 55% Upper: 17% Today, roughly: Lower: 30% 🔼 Middle: 52%🔽 Upper: 18% 🔼 Some moved upward—but MORE moved downward, and the share of national income going to the middle has fallen substantially. 7/9

That helps explain why “the stock market is at record highs” and “many Americans feel worse off” can BOTH be true. The stock market measures the value of COMPANIES. It does NOT measure the economic well-being of the AVERAGE American family. 6/9

So when the stock market soars, a WEALTHY household may gain hundreds of thousands—or millions—of dollars. A lower- or middle-income household may gain relatively little in a retirement account, while paying higher prices TODAY for food, housing, insurance, healthcare and utilities. 5/9

And ownership is enormously unequal. In the Fed’s latest full survey, about: • 34% of the bottom half owned stock • 78% of the 50th–90th percentile did • 95% of the top 10% did And the amounts owned differ dramatically. 4/9

About 58% of U.S. families own stock—but that number is misleading. Only about 21% directly own individual stocks. For many middle-class families, “stock ownership” means a 401(k) or IRA they won’t touch for years. 3/9

America’s economic problem isn’t that capitalism has stopped creating wealth. It’s that more and more of the wealth it creates is flowing to people who ALREADY own substantial assets. The richest people in America. The economy can grow while millions of Americans feel they’re falling behind 2/9

For a while I’ve been wondering what the Democrats unififying POSITIVE message needs to be for this election. It can’t be Republicans bad, Democrats good. We can be a “Big Tent” party while still having one thing we can ALL agree on. James Talarico gets it and so should every Dem running.

Trump’s approval rating hits second-term low among his Latino voters, though many still approve

Reuters/Ipsos poll released today finds that only 24% of Hispanic Americans approve of Trump’s job performance. Among registered Hispanic voters, 26% say they plan to vote Republican in the 2026 midterms, versus 52% Democratic. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...
