I received my PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago in 1953. I have seen right wing attacks on sociology as president of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, 1983-1984. Attacks by right wing radicals has now risen on all sciences.

A major shift among Jewish Americans has occurred against AIPAC. Now, 66% of Jewish Americans oppose AIPAC’s spending in Democratic primaries. Only 13% say an AIPAC endorsement makes them more likely to support a candidate, while 40% say it would make them less likely to do so.

I write when the newest mad actions have been taken by Trump with his ignorant, narcistic, and cruel leadership and followers. I think the tide against Trump's authoritarian moves was beginning to grow. He was concerned. Waging a war seems to be his response. We need to ensure this backfires.

Remember when when President Trump, back on July 25, 2019, he was seen to ask President Zelensky to find some bad conduct of Vice President Biden or his son, Hunter? Zelensky could not oblige. Trump bears grudges to those who do not comply. A dreadful way to conduct American foreign policy!

Trump's wild actions to hasten global warming are deadly. This seems to be done for coal and oil companies' profits. We can counter this madness by disinvesting in such companies and instead investing in other generators of energy. My financial adviser is examining how that can be done.

Trump's abduction of Maduro is outrageous, with likely grave international and domestic consequences. It should be resisted. The Congress should insist upon engagement. People ought oppose further threats elsewhere and should urge seeking UN engagement to oversee a free election in Venezuela.

Trump may be angry about the great wave against him and behave wildly. Yet, it should prompt more efforts to advance democracy, diversity, and equity. Actions at the local level to advance those goals are good. Also, actions in support of existing organizations defending democracy are needed.

Decrying Trump's dictatorial, self-indulging actions is useful, but not enough. Counter actions must be made and celebrated. For example, some local communities manage to sustain programs to generate energy from the sun or wind. Search on Google: Local solar and wind energy projects.

Trump loved the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, when he first was president. He was proud of his love, while Kim Jong-un speedily developed nuclear weapons. Strangely, Trump admires tyrants like Putin and Kim Jon-n and wants them to like him. Committing assassinations is really admirable.
