I just got out of You Can See Everything and my head is spinning. Never seen a doc like that. Probably never will again. People should go in knowing as little as possible and just experience what it is. I feel so many different conflicting emotions. Damn.

I can’t stop thinking about Fjord. What a complicated movie and I’m still not sure how I feel about everything in it.

I’m sorry. Querying is a brutal process. You can do everything right and still not manage to find the correct fit. Find a way to do some self-care and try to remember that no matter what, you have a voice worth hearing

This was a departure from my usual reading but I adored it. Grann writes in a wonderfully compelling style and I found myself eagerly turning pages to learn what happened next. He brought this wild true story to life with empathy, honestly, and understanding for all the key players. So good #booksky

And I will always hold onto this. My original copy of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the N64. Still works. Still pretty.

I’m ready to sob through the ending as a reminder to my 14 year old self that she will be okay. It’s my favorite game of all time and it will never be dethroned.

So yeah, I preordered the remaster coming out in November and I’m so ready to journey back to that version of Hyrule again and try to save it. I know all the songs by heart and I even find the Water Temple fun at this point.

As much as I have loved other games — and I really have — nothing will ever come close to replicating the emotional importance of playing Ocarina for the first time for me. I discovered it at the moment I needed it the most and it will always have a special place in my heart.

I still have my N64. And I still have my original cartridge. The first playthrough I ever did is still saved on it. I’ve now played through the game about 5 times. And each time, I remember what it was like to see myself in another character. In a hero.

All I knew was that my heart was so full, I had no other way to express the joy, sorrow, and relief I felt. Ocarina made me believe I would be okay. That like the “boy without a fairy” I too would find purpose. It was both an escape and an affirmation.

When I got to the end, to the last scene, the credit roll, and then the final moment after the credits, I found myself weeping. It was the first (though definitely not the last) time I had ever cried at the end of a game. Again, I couldn’t explain it.

I couldn’t even explain why I loved it so much. Why I connected so much to the story. I would need time and the ability to do real self analysis (a skill we all lack at 14) to fully understand. All I knew at the time was that the game was everything to me.

I feel head over heels in love with Ocarina in a way that I had never fallen in love with a game before. I was obsessed. All I wanted to do was play it and talk about it to the point where I definitely started irritating some of my friends, but I didn’t care.

The point was he had lived 10 years without one. The point was he was different and made to feel it. And he still got up, hung out with his friends, put up with the local bully, and tried to do the right thing.

We often talk about representation and why it matters. And in that moment, that representation mattered to me more than anything. Suddenly I was a character who had always been on the outside, never quite right in his surroundings. And sure, Link gets a fairy immediately. But that wasn’t the point.

I also hadn’t found a disability community to rely on. In short, I was absolutely lost. As to who I was and where I belonged. And then I came across Link in Ocarina. A boy without a fairy. I didn’t have an able leg and it set me apart. He didn’t have a fairy and it set him apart.

I was the only one in my school with a visible physical disability. And, honestly, it was awful. Not only was I struggling to accept my disability on my own terms, I was bullied by many of my fellow students and given very little grace by some of the administrators and teachers.

When the game opens we are quickly introduced to Link (asleep, of course) but even before we meet him, we’re told about him. Because he is the “boy without a fairy.” He’s in a community. Part of a group. But he’s weird. Different. Everyone else in Kokiri Forest has a fairy.

I was already a gamer at that point. And I knew the Zelda series but Ocarina was exciting. It was 3D! It was based around music and I loved music. So I went into it thinking it would just be another fun experience.

Much of my middle and high school experience was defined by my left knee and the surgeries I had on it. 4 in total at ages 13, 14, 15, and 16. Which didn’t exactly make me a “normal” or popular teenage girl. I was 2 knee surgeries in when I first played Ocarina.

What I will talk about is being disabled. I was born with my disabilities, but had true onset at 11 years old. The most intense part of my physical disability was my left knee. The short version is it would dislocate at will. Leaving me in pain and frequently unable to walk.

So I first discovered Ocarina of Time when I was 14. To put it bluntly I was a mess at 14. Besides the standard high school absurdities and raging hormonal imbalance all teens deal with, I had one thing going on in my personal life I won’t talk about publically and one thing I will.

Now that we’re a month out from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time rerelease, I want to try and get my thoughts in order as to why this game is so meaningful to me. I’ve always said it’s my favorite game of all time and there are a lot of reasons for that. This is going to be long.

I loved this book. I loved it because it’s a brilliant look at mental health through the lens of folk horror. I also hated this book because I recognized a bit of myself in the MC that I found very unsettling. But if you like folk horror, I truly cannot recommend it enough. Fantastic read.

DVParty Day 5 My WIP is best described as a dark faerie tale about what happens when intergenerational family trauma becomes tangled up in Irish mythos. #DVParty

DVParty - Day 4 The Haunting of Crescent Moon Isle as a meme. Sometimes characters are smart and don’t do the genre stupid thing. Doesn’t always help them. #DVParty
A meme that shows a stick figure with a hat on the right. The words on the left read “this is Bill. Bill didn’t go toward creepy sounds in an abandoned house that was said to be haunted. Be like Bill.”

DVParty Day 2 - Zoe is 36, a professional pianist, a skeptic of the paranormal, and 2 years out from a nasty divorce. She hopes to find love again, though she’s as skeptical of that as she is of ghosts. So falling for a guy at a supposedly haunted house will be fine. She thinks. #DVParty

My wonderful and talented friend @allymation.bsky.social made these absolutely lovely sketches for me of the first time my main character, Zoe, sees a ghost in The Haunting of Crescent Moon Isle. Never seen my words translated to images before and it’s a pretty amazing feeling #DVParty
A sketch of a ghost at the a window. She’s in an old fashioned gown and wrapped in chains. Her eyes are pure black yet her face is distraughtA sketch of a living woman seeming a ghost at a window. The ghost wears an old fashioned gown and she is wrapped in chains. Only the back of the living woman’s head is visible in the image yet it is clear the ghost is staring straight at her.

The biggest problem I have with this game is I’m finding I’m dawdling and just spending days fishing and exploring rather than focusing on the main quest. I just enjoy the world so much, I want to stay in it and I’m worried if I get everything to the collector guy it’ll end. Probably badly.
