"White collar work isn't what it used to be." That shiny monthly actually wasted keystrokes on that sentence, telling folks: Don't Worry, Be Happy... laying brick. So says every generation of rich folk, mad their elite rooms are too crowded. To quote a recent @dem8z.bsky.social post: How boring.

gore vidal once said that the only artform americans ever invented was the advertisement but that’s because he never listened to 2000s southern rap mixtapes or saw their album covers.

Racial terror intended to act as a social deterrent? This is called lynching. Make no mistake.

On a day that's tough in this town, I'm sitting at my desk, in my new neighborhood, listening to a parade of kids walking home from the first day of school. It's bringing me so much joy!

Friends, read this article for another example of how we only consider some folks fully human. The leading quotes are remarkable dehumanizing to our neighbors without homes, while profoundly elevating to strangers who may or may not visit our town. Finally, the speaker has no shame about it at all.

This whole thread is worth your time if you plan to say anything at all about Charlottesville and housing and justice. Thanks so much, @jordyyager.bsky.social.

Black residents are told, in so many words, that their voices—and futures—don't matter in civic decisions that directly impact them. They're told that these decisions are for the betterment of the city. But what’s left out is *whose* city. jordyyager.beehiiv.com/p/from-vineg...

Yes!!!! What’s wrong with folks. It’s time to pose Toni Cade Bambara’s evergreen question: “What are we pretending not to know today?" And why are we pretending?

"I don't know if Charlottesville has agreed to really create a community of true belonging, which means you have to have all the components of fairness and justice. They have not agreed to create a just community." -- Nikuyah Walker, from a recent interview we did

As the tributes to Jesse Jackson pour in, I think of Julian Bond’s remarks about Jackson’s two presidential campaigns: In 1984, Jesse Jackson had been the candidate of Black America; in 1988, he became the Black candidate of disaffected and alienated America -- unemployed meat packers and 1/

It takes a lot of courage to organize. It also takes a lot of humility. To say, I can’t solve this problem or challenge this system by myself and I gotta work with others. And we don’t know if this is gonna work, but it’s worth trying.

Hall & Oats never went by "Hall & Oats." All of their albums say "Daryl Hall and John Oates." We can't go for that (no can do).
