Same. I graduated from law school. I passed the Bar in my state. I practiced for years. I stopped practicing and stopped keeping up with CLE requirements. I can no longer practice law. According to the registry in my state I'm "retired." And if asked, that's what I say - "I'm a retired lawyer."

I think it has to depend on the item. Every white t-shirt will turn yellow at some point and shouldn't be considered a "life-time purchase", nor should you spend that kind of money on one. But I am about to put on a 30 year old Burberry jacket to go walk my dog.

There are at least four different accepted English spellings of my grandfather's last name. He and his brother immigrated at different times and used different spellings. They were still brothers, even if their family names were just a little different.

Can't tell a family when a child's classmate has COVID, but Head Lice requires a grade-wide notice. Schools are doing top surgery in the bathroom, but your teenager's Epipen is locked up in the nurse's office and requires a call to the parents before use. It makes no sense.

Same. Grad classes as a senior and then law school. My child is in the first year of a Master's degree. And has two part time jobs (TA position & at the university library). I don't know how they are managing it all.

All sports before puberty should be co-ed. Including full contact sports like hockey. The focus should be on being active, having fun and skill development. Games should be non-competitive (no scores kept) & with penalties only for unsafe behavior (why care about off-sides with 7 year olds?).

Oh, yes! I regularly work with high school students who don't know where cities like Rome and London are located (or even what countries they are in). Asking them to find Chicago on a map is an exercise in futility. I'll forgive them for not knowing Antwerp, but asking me where is Washington DC?

Yup. And I usually wear cargo pants, so my phone & passport can always be in a buttoned/zippered pocket. If I have to get off in an emergency, I can/will leave my knitting behind, but I want my phone & passport securely on my person.

Mine went to university in another country. Even when they called, there were things that I could not help with. I could help troubleshoot a little, but I couldn't tell them if they job they wanted to apply for was possible under the terms of their visa. They needed to figure that out on their own.

Part of me is furious - these kids need proper care (NYU was very, very good at that). Part of me is relieved (my child's medical records are not being handed over). Most of me is resigned (NYU had closed the clinic months ago, this is just them being realistic and protecting the medical records).

I had a car in NYC for 15+ years and spent way too many hours on the Cross Bronx Expressway and the Grand Central Parkway. I went to help my child move out of Toronto a few weeks ago (they left for grad school) and went out of my way to avoid the Gardner. It made me, a New York driver, too nervous.

If Chicago is like either of the universities my child has attended in the last five years (undergrad and master's program), the school's Accessibility Office will have something to say about how it is actually implemented. Many schools have paid note-takers in classes where there is a need.

I am the parent of a trans young adult, who got GAC elsewhere, but was treated at Sinai on occasion (when your child falls off playground equipment in that part of Central Park, that's the ER you go to). Tell her thank you and that I wish her the best.

In hindsight, my Dad's earliest symptom was the onset of diabetes, which had been written off as a known side-effect of a medication he was taking for Parkinson's. By the time the cancer was found (seen as a shadow on the edge of a CT scan done because of a hernia), the tumor was inoperable.
