European friends, I love you, but can you please stop adding chocolate to your muesli? Chocolate cereals are for children and muesli is for grown-ups. Thank you.

If all these new Head of Talent posts aren’t organising lunchtime variety shows then I think that’s a massive wasted opportunity.

Brilliant to hear @catdavies.bsky.social talking both about what works and what DOESN'T work when it comes to research culture at Leeds. Soooo helpful. (And I love that image about failure).

Except from a novel:

I LOVE hearing about why Universities are #MoreThanOurRank "What universities offer is so much more than their ranking" says Emma Butler. 100% agree! UK CoARA National Chapter meeting.
Five areas in which we could demonstrate why we are more than our rank:
* Innovation & research
* Dedication to public engagement & partnerships
* Supporting student success through teaching and learning
*People experience and culture
* An applied university of today and for tomorrow

Enjoying the UK CoARA National Chapter event today. Great to hear Emma Butler's overview of the University of Derby's work to implement CoARA Commitment 4 on avoiding the use of rankings in research assessment. This has included adopting the @inorms-reg.bsky.social #MoreThanOurRank initiative. 😀

Absolute gold from @dkernohan.bsky.social on @wonkhe.bsky.social, in response to more ill-informed REF-PCE-is-woke-nonsense claptrap in The Times today. Have they even read the guidance for REF2021? This stuff ain’t new. wonkhe.com/wonk-corner/...
If you consider the purpose of REF and QR, you would have to conclude that it is a mechanism to ensure that our universities remain good at Research. although income from QR is used in different ways at different providers, the general sense is that it represents an investment in research capacity-and thus the research environment (the resources and support you need to do good research). Neither your REF score or QR allocation are prizes for writing the “best“ research articles.
