Around my moth trap this morning - 3 of these beautiful little beetles. I don't know much about beetles but I believe they are Black-headed Cardinal beetles. They're absolutely bright shiny red - it seems they're more common in the south - I've never seen one before. #beetle #nature #insects #bugsky

Tiny new born deer right in the middle of the path a couple of days ago. More in Alt. #nature #wildlife #deer #roedeer

A photo of a newborn roe deer lying curled up on the ground. Although it's lying in a strange position, it was OK, as I went to check half an hour later and it had been moved by its mother. Newborns can often be found lying alone at this time of year - their instinct is to lie still and quiet so as not to attract predators. They also have very little scent which also helps them avoid predation. It's too young to keep up with its mother at this age, so the mother leaves it somewhere safe and comes back at intervals to feed it. This one wasn't in a particularly save place here, so I was glad that she moved it. If you find one, don't get too near, and don't touch it or try to pick it up. The mother is probably watching from a distance. (This picture is cropped - so I didn't get as near as it might look, and certainly didn't touch it).
