Kala Paint is out! I'm @olawson.bsky.social , professional artist for 15 years, then game dev, now wrote the painting software I wish I'd been using all this time. GPU-run creamy brushes, no subscription, no gen AI crap, hand-coded with ideas from artists in our Discord, and more added weekly!

Also posted a process gif here: landylachs.com/sketchblog/2... I added the gif near the top of the post - don't scroll too far past the gif if you haven't watched S3, because there are spoilers where I write more about S3's conclusion (it's clearly marked before spoilers begin)

Daniel Keene from “Silo” | September 11, 2026

I watched the Silo S3 finale & -penultimate episodes last Friday, and I loved these episodes so much, I’m still thinking about them days later! Because of that incredible finale (and penultimate…

The S3 finale & penultimate episodes really hit me emotionally - I won't say specifics b/c spoiling S3 would be tragic - several moments tore at my heartstrings, especially Zukerman's performance If you watched it, hopefully you understand what I was going for, particularly w/ the foreground object

"Daniel Keene" from the Silo tv/book series Couldn't resist sketching after S3's finale! I had Ashley Zukerman (Daniel's actor) in mind, but this is another drawing from imagination/memory practice, so likeness won't be a full match - hopefully the "feeling" of the character is there! #art #sketch

Portrait painting of "Daniel Keene" from the Silo series. It shows the character with slicked-back hair, surrounded by a double-helix, a faint view of the silo's central pillar. A pez dispenser topped with a yellow duck is in the foreground.

If you haven't heard of the game before, it was this novel indie game where you're a deer and communicate with other deer players entirely by in-game actions - there was no chat feature Iirc, the premise by the devs was seeing what emergent player behavior arose from a multiplayer game w/o combat

Had a few conversations this month where "The Endless Forest" came up, which reminded me of this older artwork - it's two of my duskbirds drawn in an Endless Forest-inspired way, with the symbols on the forehead and halo Does anyone remember that game? Did you play it? #art #sketch #duskbirds

Two duskbirds having a wordless conversation.

Thanks Dona! I didn't even think about the seasonal potential of this look for him, he does look prepared for the months ahead, haha! Now that makes me wish we had dynamic weather in GW3 - I'm guessing that'd be too computationally intensive, but I hope there will be some snowy maps on launch :D

010

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 09/09/2026

Aw thank you Saint! Makes me happy you like how he turned out here :D

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 09/09/2026

Thanks Kyris! Oh man, fluffy Gorrik amidst all the falling snow and festivities of a Wintersday scene would be so festive and cozy...!

010

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 09/09/2026

Spurred after chatting with a friend about GW3's "fuzzier" asura, after which I felt inspired to try drawing how a "fuzzier" Gorrik might look. I specifically wanted to see how he might look with an overly fluffy neck, alpaca-style. Results are mixed! But I had fun drawing something so silly.

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 09/09/2026

"Gorrik!... but fuzzy." Completely forgot about this Gorrik sketch-painting I drew at the end of August #GuildWars2 #GW2 #asura #gorrik #art #sketch

The asura "Gorrik" from Guild Wars 2 if he was a fuzzier individual.

Browsing some files and stumbled across these progress crops I hadn't seen in a while - I don't know if the refining stages are generally less interesting to see, but I've always enjoyed seeing those from artists!

It's a bit out of date and I've been meaning to update it at some point, but this is where I've been archiving my Guild Wars 2 art: landylachs.com/sketchblog/2... It's mostly art from 2022 and earlier

I was clearing my IG as I saw I had the archive function now (I don't know if I was part of some A/B test, but I didn't have that for a while) - forgot I once drew this sketch of Eir! This one slipped through the cracks for my "gw2 art compilation," as it was unfinished #gw2 #art #sketch

That's reasonable! That's a lovely tribute to make in your homestead. Psychologically my mind is still very enmeshed during the HoT part of GW2, even this many years later, haha. I have to remind myself sometimes that he's long been gone for many players - he's still so present and alive to me!

010

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 21/08/2026

Oh man, being able to add NPC's to our homestead is such a good idea. Imagine if we could unlock them through a quest/collection involving some small bit of lore involving the corresponding characters. I'd unlock Trahearne & Malyck first thing, haha

210

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 21/08/2026

That's so touching! Did you create your sylvari before meeting the character, or was it a coincidental surprise when you first saw him? :D Either way, I hope you've thought up a few stories involving both of them! I wonder what he does during the rest of the year, I wish we could visit him then too

Liz Liu @lizliu.com · 21/08/2026

I'm very glad you like it! Aw, I do the same. He's part of why this festival is one of my favorites - I love any callbacks to Mordremoth/the HoT part of GW2. I love hearing people who visit him too!

Not quite a sketch, as I likely spent decent time on the original – but I didn’t on the paintover, and wouldn’t call this finished Comparison is on my sketchblog - no direct link as the original has many errors I'm slightly embarrassed to show. But it's not difficult to find if you'd like to see!
