A lot of the 3d asset stuff I can personally write off as a "resolution"/"scale" thing - at a distance things can be totally beautiful but up close you see the flaws. Determining at what level the detail matters is a normal thing in games/graphics, but genAI's context mistakes are immersion-breaking

So it's not the weirdest architectural decision I've ever seen, but is there any point to that glass column besides letting in light to the small entryway at the bottom? It doesn't appear to open to any of the floors besides the main floor, and doesn't have levels. Just a big empty column. #NTE

Okay, first-up we have some wonky decisions about stairs on a hill. I've seen this kind of thing in the wild in real places but it's wild that two folks are having a conversation on those steps. Guessing this is a confluence of GenAI weirdness. #NTE

Haniel looks on with some skepticism at two men having a conversation on some level stairs that unevenly cut into the sidewalk incline, making the bottom stair way too high on one end and way too low on the other. Very unsafe.

Excerpts from one of my all-time favourite textbooks, Rationality and Power by Bent Flyvbjerg. It is a fascinating tale of decision-making in the city council of Aalborg, Denmark. press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/bo... Anyway, here are some poignant and relevant (and blurry) pics from my 2007 reading.

Relevant text: Power does not seek knowledge out of a Baconian imperative. Rather, power *defines* what counts as knowledge and rationality, and ultimately, as we shall see, what counts as reality.

In modern societies the ability to facilitate or suppress knowledge is in large part what makes one party more powerful than another.

I got curious about the Where's Waldo test for visual analysis type AI today so tried it out with a few models. Qwen2.5-vl @ 7B, 32B, 72B; Qwen3-vl @ 235B; Gemini 2.5 Pro Results: all wildly incorrect, all overconfident that they'd located Waldo. Even accounting for scaling issues.

Hi @vivziepop.bsky.social I dunno if you read things posted here, but I was struggling with the surround audio mix on Hazbin s2 songs so analyzed: Summary: centre channel is muddy with too much instrumental. Compare spectrograms for More than Anything and Sera's Confession. Wildly reduces impact.

Really appreciate Apple's recent increased use of swapping if only Firefox didn't persist in trying to use ALL of it.

Force Quit Applications modal window on Mac. "Your system has run out of application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using."

VS Code is using 7.42 GB, Discord is using 2.38 GB, and Firefox is using an absurd 44.03 GB.
