An orphaned pup that was in our care. The insert photo is the day he arrived; very underweight, dehydrated and scared. The main photograph is the day he went off to crèche at the right weight for his age, happy and confident ❤️🦇

❤️🦇Happy Bat-entine’s Day🦇❤️ We love bats for being critical pollinators, dispersing seeds, regenerating forests, for being natural pest control, for their medical insights, for being 100% cutie patooties and for just being awesome in general ❤️🦇 #bats

Eyes open 🥹 Recently we were asked if we could show the size of a microbat newborn; this pup was around 5 days old and weighed just 1.3 grams. We were lucky enough to capture this photo just as her eyes were opening for the first time!

If you find a pup please gently scoop it up in a small towel & contain in a box. If you can add a heat source like a hot water bottle or wheat bag against the box-that would be helpful. Please do not ever attempt to feed them, even water. The most critical thing is safety and gentle warmth ❤️🦇 #bats

The 2025 ‘Australasian Bat Of The Year’- the Christmas Island Flying-fox is back in the news. Dr Annabel Dorrestein talks to the ABC about the islands only remaining mammal after the Christmas Island Shrew has been declared extinct. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11... #bats #christmasidland #extinction

Christmas Island shrew added to international list of extinct species

A researcher says the long-suspected extinction of the mouse-sized mammal is "another stain" on Australia's environmental record.

Today is Threatened Species Day. Losing bats means losing natural pest control, essential seed dispersal, & vital pollination. But there’s hope! Every rescued bat, protected habitat, & educated person makes a difference. Together we can turn the tide ❤️🦇 #bats #threatenedspeciesday
