We found Astrid at first was getting a lil too 'old lady' like Tildy, visuals that show the range of expressions really help! not every person yells the same way. #art 217331
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 14hit doesnt help that the expectations and scope creep for board artists has skyrocketed too. I just heard of a show from a friend that had to do their season in half the time they normally had to rush an air date. ITS ALREADY TIGHT, but they keep pushing T_T 410
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 14hits not one for one, but in a pinch if i go 'huh i gotta do a shot where something flys towards the camera' and look at a few things that I know have...things flying towards the camera. 081

Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 14hIt really is! its hard when you have a brain that insists it can skip the first skeps...which i relate to. when it comes to the job its easier, but for myself outside of a structure? HOOBOY. but all of the ideas i've had that I can talk about proudly were ones i really did ref and research for 020
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 14hwe take it for granted that it should be simple to do, but storyboarding is basically directing and there are so many factors to juggle, its mentally taxing so we gotta do our warmups..and i HATE doing warmups!! lol. BUT WE GOTTA. its like dang, stretching really does help huh? fuck! 100
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 15hI learned storyboarding in school but that was YEARS AND YEARS prior, and I was doing revs on whole new sequences on hilda because we were a scrappy team on the first season and there was a lot of us learning new skills. What did i do? Ref and planning ref and planning. 040
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 15hWhen I storyboarded the first thing I did was find movies that gave me the feeling I wanted to emulate and I studied shots. Here are a few Star trek The Search for Spock Lord of the rings The descent The host Jurassic world comp ref, anatomy ref, ref is lube for your brain, dont go in dry 7498
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026all of these things are squashed together and rushed, and all of the onus of making it work comes down to people on the back end trying to bandaid things that have already been bandaided. Its wild the amount of money spent on the back end that could have been spent up and not wasted time. 120
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026totally! editing is a whole art and that has also been merged too since storyboarding programs have a timeline you can use to make animatics. A few frames here and there can make the difference, there is so much nuance in every stage and we've lost a lot of it. 230
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I've done it too, and i had to really stop and realize that I was part of the expectations raising cuz I always went out of my way to take on more roles. And yeah its good to have a range of knowlodge but we also need the skill of knowing when not to apply it. road to hell, good intentions, ectect 210

Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026one person can do all these things, and many do! but you can kinda see it in stages as a sculpture, and if people have the room to really dig into those nuances it makes for so much clarity. Animation used to have all of that planning *because* it was such a pain in the ass do redo something! 010
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I split it up like this kinda, they all overlap, but they all have their own role to play. storyboard and editing= storytelling through flow, framing, beats and blocking character and bg layout = composition, perspective, model animation = movement and acting after the stage is set. 120
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026These challenges are still there if you're in a singular project but you are much closer to solve the problem and get on the same page without making meetings and emails. You can do more up-front planning cuz you know the back-end team. its WILD the difference it can make. 160
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026a lot of service pipelines has the service studio do the background layout, which can differ from the board if the board is rough. You cant have someone lock down poses in burbank and have the perspective of the layout be silghtly different. 170
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026They do still exist in some productions but its really rare. Whast more common are special poses or expressions that fall outside of the model, but thats not every shot. for layout, it requires locking down choices and needing to stick with them - 150
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026there is no EASY production, its all hard work, but the amount of wasted energy and effort that is done by the established system has gotten worse and worse. And I dont know the pipeline at Glitch so im cant talk to how it runs - but this new era gives a chance to bring back what worked before 2140
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026preproduction and production being separated through the service studio animation pipeline makes this even worse because there is hardly any communication or collaboration between the people who make the choices and the people who execute them. The final scene could have been done several times 1130
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026so many things being mushed together and rushed through means retakes on the back end. Scenes being redone, re-adjusted. I've seen full scripts being re-written and re-shot no lie. Every retake is expected to be the same or more quality while being done in HALF or less the time. 2140
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026also to add to this. lack of upfront resources means lack of planning. If you have a layout role you need to *stick with what you do* because it effects so much. you have to make choices with intent, you need to,as a director , STAND ON YOUr calls 1161
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Lazy + animation cant go together because in order to make animation even exist in the first place takes so much effort. My whole career has been things being cut or combined to do it with less because people EXPECT MORE but call it lazy. The output has been insane. 1170
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026dynamic posing and keeping models consistent take time, and the best chance to get something looking good is the first pass of it. when everyone triples up on jobs it leads to more retakes, and more retakes leads to diminishing returns each pass of a scene. Thats why timers & char layout exist 4392
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026proper composition and clear poses can do SO MUCH storytelling without doing movement. All artists should understand proper composition and have these skills- but on a production pipeline you dont have the time to focus on different aspects - thats why these jobs were different! 1423
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 13/10/2026CHARACTER LAYOUTS. One of the important jobs , along with animation timers, that got absorbed into the storyboard artist role over the last decade, leading to tons of burnout and scope creep. look at the clarity of storytelling you can get when you bring back lost roles! 1121671

Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 12/10/2026oh totally. those things do exist and im not discounting that- but thats got nothing to do with generations. It shows up differently maybe in different generations, but throughout history there is always a shift and a fight. I dont like the distilment of it being a new problem with gen Z 010

Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 12/10/2026 I loves me filmmaking and i loves me movies and i loves me art we gotta up our media literacy to REALIZE and include that when you see 'intimacy' on the screen there is an uncomfortable layer of systemic sexual assault in its industry that can't be unwoven from it. sorry. dont make the rules 🤷 281
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 12/10/2026A great example btw would be Love Lies Bleeding. They talked a lot about how they approached intimate scenes after it was released too so it had a lot of intent behind it. and .yeah i'd say they pulled it off. maybe its time to re-watch that...static.klipy.comKristen Stewart MusclesAlt: Kristen Stewart being incredibly yum 130
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 12/10/2026These scenes often dont serve the story, and when they do they are most often in the shallowest of ways. Can you find good examples? sure, but if you're talking about an established industry its safe to say that its best they look at how they function. And we need to be more critical of our media. 240
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 12/10/2026we fully see actresses play out the directors kinks. Like, I dont want to watch From Dusk Till Dawn and see their vision ahaha. ahaha. YKNOW. Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 11/10/2026I've been playing a lot of dressmaker and the characters are fun but i am praying for some future UI updates when it comes to pattern piece labeling. My brain cries at the amount of attempts it takes me to understand what piece 'left left front' is and what way its pointing when i put it down. 6111
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 10/10/2026the relationship between that scene and me is somewhat of a running joke..........cuz every season...shes there, going ' hahaha HAHAHAH YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD BE RID OF ME" Except for the mountain king, which was done by Giant Ant studios in Vancouver and they nailed it. 020
Littledigits @littledigits.bsky.social · 10/10/2026yeah NO ONE IS GETTING OUT OF THAT ONE EASY, but the later departments always have to deal with everyones bandaids.
