Mount St. Helens, like the rest of the Cascades, coyly hid its face in the thick clouds of autumn. Even then, the view was still breathtaking. #photography

Photograph of a foggy mountainous landscape, with lush green ground cover and endless evergreens, fading into a foggy view of the base of a mountain (Mount Saint Helens).

I almost want to say that this palette is pretty decent but there's something that crawls under my skin about it I can't place.

I've started feeling drawn back to working on my photography. Somewhere I got lost. So here I am, trying to make my way back. Magpie, taken at Tracy Aviary Utah, summer 2024.

A lovely moment of calm and power from visiting the Snoqualmie Falls. Blessed to have the privilege to see this sacred place of the Snoqualmie people. This is a case of land reclamation and it makes my heart soar.

What kind of art have I been up to lately? Why, tiny foxes (and friends). This started off as a little ADHD reward system for the partner and it has taken off since, but also been a huge boon for me creatively. And yes, they really are small - usually no bigger than 200 pixels on any one side.

A compilation image of many tiny fox doodles, colored in natural and unnatural colors, with a very simplistic and cartoonish look. "January 26" is written in the middle.

Rare form interjection but I love Haranir so much. Could care almost nothing about WoW these days but I am so in it for these models (as a feral druid main).

WIP experiment from tonight. Likely won't finish this since I went in without direction, I just wanted to see if the vision in my head + the technique was something I wanted to pursue. The answer is yes, definitely. Why I didn't think of working with negatives is beyond me.

An unfinished art piece that features a gold design on a black and red watercolor background. The design is unfinished but features a symmetrical "blob" that has been slowly carved out from the center.

Tonight I discovered this incredibly beautiful, tiny fungi while browsing for something else. Pruinomycena subcyanocephala. Photographs here are by Cho Fungi (linktr.ee/chofungi) who doesn't appear to have a Bsky. Tagging #SciArt in too. www.inaturalist.org/observations...

A macro photograph of a single mushroom in what at first apperas to be a simple shape, with a round, ball like top in a gradient of night sky blue, standing on a stalk of white that widens out at the base. It is covered in tiny hair-like structures that appear to end in small yellow particles, giving the overall appearance of a night sky over snow studded with stars.

A macro photograph of a blue and white mushroom described again below. Zoomed out for scale, a human finger tip is held close beside it, showing that this interstellar beauty is probably the size of a pin head.

This new pattern, "Lunarfruit," will be heading to my Threadless soon. It takes inspiration from dragonfruit (pitaya) and moths.

A tiling pattern in purples, pinks, and greens with a very tropical sensation. The primary round motif features many moth like shapes interspersed with dragon fruit symbolism. The secondary motif, which is sparser, contains large uncut dragonfruit, small cut dragon fruit, and y-shaped dragonfruit tree leaves.

Seasonal colorways picked for my next mandala design, which will be the last designs I add for the soft "relaunch" of my shop. Little teaser here. Alas now comes the hard part - design files - but it'll make a good weekend project.

Four cropped mandalas lined up next to each other, each with a floral theme and different color palette. Upper left has a muted dark red tone, upper right has a colorful pink and purple tone, lower left has a desaturated blue tone, and lower right has a bright saturated red and yellow tone.

This little foal isn't much. Just worked in a small thumbnail (never larger than 450px on my screen) compared to a low quality photo reference. A sketch. The proportions, the gesture, the values - remarkably improved to my usual. I let go of my rigid thinking and saw something new emerge.

A mix of study and technique practice for grass. I want to improve my environments and backgrounds, so I've been imitating different techniques and tutorials to feel out what works for me. (And I think I've found a default brush for myself, at last!)

Four painted illustrations of grass. In upper left, a small patch of dark grass in a common 'turf' color, with light patches blobbed in, and less cohesive form. In upper middle left, a bright, painterly patch of grass with blue shadows, and tiny red flowers. In left lower, a large swatch of grass in low hills, reading a warm mustard yellow near the horizon to a dark olive green toward the viewer, with better lighting and shadow cast and cohesive forms, with thin individual strands of grass throughout. In full right side, a similar hillscape in softer more pastel greens and yellows, with more blocky grass forms and less minute definition, with dark trees and clouds blobbed in the background somewhat abstractly.

I was blessed to get a great room in the hospital last week - high up with huge windows, gazing out into the west. I spent a lot of time just gazing out into the sky, studying the clouds, watching the hues slowly shift. It was a peaceful reprieve.
