1,007 days after I shelved it to the TBR, DEAD BEAT is finally in my hands. I may have already mentally rated it 5/5, lol. I'm still in full-body withdrawal from the Yale weirdness and the occult academia. Love the illustrated spreads and embossed cover. No spoilers...I'm begging! #booksky

David Foster Wallace wrote an essay on Wittgenstein's Mistress. My verdict: the book is worth it, if you don't need a plot. Repetitive, at times exhausting, slowly devastating, and weirdly funny: "While I was peeing, I thought about Lawrence of Arabia." #bookthreads #litfic

Is My Struggle: Book 1 brilliant, or just exhausting? Both. Continuing to Book 2. Cautiously. #bookthreads #litfic #mystruggle

"Kafka by way of Ogawa." That's Carmen Maria Machado on Amparo Dávila. A few stories into Behind the Gate, I see the Kafka. Less creepy than billed so far, but so well written I don't mind. My first read for Hispanic Heritage Month. ARC via NetGalley and New Directions. #booksky
Hispanic Heritage Month begins today — promotional graphic highlighting the book Behind the Gate by Amparo Dávila with a purple cover showing pink pillar-like figures and a black bird, plus small credits for translators, publisher, and an October 2026 date.

Audiobook of Exit Party by Emily St John MandelBOOK DESCRIPTION
From the bestselling author of Station Eleven, Exit Party is Emily St. John Mandel's epic new story of crimes committed and loves lost across worlds and decades. 2031. America is at war with itself, but for the first time in weeks there is some hope: the Republic of California has been declared, the curfew in Los Angeles is lifted, and everyone in the city is going to a party. Ari, newly released from prison, arrives with her friend Gloria just as a fragile new era begins. But there are people at the party who shouldn't be there. Something is very wrong...
Years later, living a different life in Paris, Ari remains haunted by that night. Whatever happened at the party fractured her sense of reality - and may hold the key to a very different world. Freedom and surveillance, art and survival, love and loss in a broken world: Exit Party is the electrifying new novel from Emily St. John Mandel.

Reading: Starbuck. Drinking: Starbucks. A third of the way through Moby-Dick. Every bit as good as I hoped, and quirkier than I expected. I survived "Cetology," the whale-catalog chapter. ☕️🐋

I took a break from reading for a while. I did not take a break from buying books. This is the evidence. Eleven books. Zero of them read. The dog is unimpressed. #booksky

Six books I asked publishers for today. Four are translations, spread Oct 2026– Apr 2027 so they don't all come due at once. The two I want most: Second Lives and A Cow Gives Birth at Night. Fingers crossed on the Murakami. 🤞 Which would you read first? #booksky #NetGalley #ARC #literaryfiction

Ice is a cult classic but I spent most of the book wondering: who are these people, and why should I care? By the end, I understood the dream logic, the obsession, the symbolism. I just found the actual reading experience… kind of average. 2.75/5 ⭐️ feels about right. What am I missing? #litfic

Re-reading To the Lighthouse in honor of Virginia Woolf's birthday today, Jan. 25. This book changed how I think about time, memory, and the weight of ordinary moments. Woolf stretches a single afternoon into an entire emotional world. 5/5 stars. A lifetime re-read for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #booksky

Did Tobias Wolff invent light academia? 📚✨ Probably not, but Old School comes awfully close. It's a sharp coming-of-age story about ambition, class, and the cost of wanting greatness too badly. 4/5 ⭐️ Have you read Old School? #booksky #litfic

DNF ≠ bad book. Usually it means wrong reader, wrong moment. These 9 books didn't click for me. Taste is personal, and life’s too short to force yourself thru a book you’re not connecting with! What’s 1 book you DNF’d & don’t regret, and 1 you loved that seems to bounce off others? #booksky

Achievement unlocked: 1st 5-star read of '26! Crux is a gritty, adrenaline-fueled literary novel that uses rock climbing not just as a backdrop, but as a way of exploring friendship, survival, fear, and the hope of wanting more from life. Have you read Crux yet, or is it on your TBR? #booksky

🌒 House Made of Dawn is often credited with launching the Native American literary Renaissance. Momaday’s prose is spare, lyrical, and often beautiful. But the fragmented narrative and symbolic distance kept me from fully connecting. I admired it more than I loved it. #booksky

📚 26 for ’26 Over the past year, a lot of good books got pushed lower on my TBR as other reads took priority. So, I did a full shelf inventory and picked 26 books from the backlog that I’m committing to read this year, ~2–3 each month if I want this entire stack finished by Dec. 31st. #booksky

✨ More ways to make 2026 your best reading year ✨ Reading isn’t about doing it “right.” It’s not a competition, and it definitely doesn’t need to be optimized. It can be slow, opinionated, messy, and still incredibly meaningful. Which ones are you already doing? Which do you want to try? #booksky

The Stranger in the Woods is about solitude, but it’s also about meaning, restlessness, and learning to live with what feels unfinished. It quietly reshaped how I think about being alone with my own thoughts. These are the lines from the book that stayed with me. #solitude #booksky #bookquotes
