Lighthouse - Edinburgh's Radical Bookshop @lighthousebks.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
We’re big poetry lovers here at Lighthouse - from our regular bookstalls at poetry festivals to our monthly HOPE poetry book subscription, there’s rarely a moment that one of us isn’t reading a poetry collection and telling the rest of us about it.
Text which reads:

On being 'British'
My Chinese name -
said aloud, sounds nothing like the English transliteration on my birth certificate.
My Chinese name -
a secret? One that only my people know, and only some of them.
As a child, I played in the neighbourhood until the sun dropped low and my mother called me home.
My English friends rejoiced in my musical name.
My English birth - certified by my father.
This is England, the country where I was born.
This is my home.
A glance at the past -
this country has no memory of me being here.
The present moment -
do you see an image of someone like me, seen as English, up on screen?
JENNIFER LEE TSAIText which reads:

"Bark, archive, splinter
You relish the entire interval of him, his ethos of satiety and enoughness
Through certain dialects and angles of native light the leaves across all these trees are pointing as if unionised
In a nearby village, a meat-eater's carnival
Supposing rusted pitchforks freak the contaminated crows"Text which reads:

A BIRD IN FLIGHT
After 'A Chair in Snow' by Jane Hirshfield
A bird in flight should be
like any other animal in motion & in its element
yet a bird in flight is always freefluent
more than a butterfly
more than a frog or a leopard
a bird's bones are made for just one thing
the breath of the sky and its quick changeable shapes
not to hold marrow
not to hold time

Rewilded land remains green amid drought-stricken English countryside, images show
National Trust’s Holnicote estate says restored wetlands and rivers offer proof of resilience to drought, wildfires and flooding Aerial footage of an estate in Somerset has revealed the benefits of rewilding land in the face of extreme weather brought about by the climate crisis. The area of the National Trust’s Holnicote estate where rivers have been returned to their natural courses and wetlands have been restored have remained green and lush during the five heatwaves across the summer. In contrast, the surrounding countryside has become parched and brown. Continue reading...
