I have a completely irrational dislike of Cole Caufield. Which means my Habs-fan friends are always sending me gifs of him. Now I finally have something I can send back in response à la Ziggy! www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/...

"I like it. That's one of the better ones. I've seen some terrible ones. Some really bad ones. Like [Montreal Canadiens winger] Cole Caufield's. It's awful. I send it to him every day because it's terrible."

Followed by a photo of his NHL 27 scan, looking dead-eyed but otherwise vaguely recognizable.Screenshot of:

"The hair doesn't look bad. I'll take the salad. Good jawline, too. But other than that it looks like I saw a ghost or something."

The poll also surveyed respondents on the AZ attorney general race between the incumbent Democrat Kris Mayes and Republican nominee Warren Petersen, the current president of the Arizona Senate. This is a tighter race, according to the poll: Mayes: 48% Petersen: 43%

The race for Arizona Attorney General has incumbent Kris Mayes (D)
narrowly ahead of State Senator Warren Petersen (R), 48% - 43%.
• Mayes is up by a 2:1 margin among voters under 50, while Petersen wins
voters 50+ by 10-points.
• Similar to the governor’s race, Mayes, the Democrat, benefits from stronger
base support currently plus a double-digit lead with Independents.
• There are sizable cuts on gender, race/ethnicity, and educational attainment
in the AG race as well.
• A majority of Swing Voters 50+ are undecided, with the race a statistical
dead heat among those with an opinion.

This poll indicates a big age gap in AZ governor's race: 76% of the respondents 18-34 said they preferred Hobbs, the incumbent Democrat, compared to 22% for Biggs (2% undecided). But respondents older than 65 said they preferred Biggs (55%) compared to Hobbs (43%), with 2% other/undecided.
Gubernatorial contest
In the race for governor, incumbent Katie Hobbs (D) leads Rep. Andy
Biggs (R) 52% - 44%. Among voters 50+, Biggs holds a 9-point lead.
• Hobbs’s lead is driven by voters under 50, particularly those 18-34 who
prefer her by a sizable 54-point margin.
• She wins near unanimous support from her fellow Democrats and has a 26-
point lead with Independents. Biggs is up big among Republicans but gets
less consolidated backing from them.
• There is a net 29-point gender gap both among voters overall and among
those 50+ with Hobbs strong among women and Biggs best with men 50+.
• The race is very close among white voters and those without 4-year college
degrees, with Hispanic voters and college graduates clearly favoring Hobbs.
• Caregivers 50+ lean toward Biggs, while Swing Voters 50+ lean toward
Hobbs.

At the heart of the case is language that the judge ruled would apply to all unions, not just education unions: “This state or any political subdivision of this state may not negotiate with a labor organization” (see screenshot for the rest)
Screenshot from ruling that says:

Here, Plaintiffs (and the State) argue that HCR 2040 violates the Separate Amendment Rule because it combines a prohibition on school districts using public resources to support labor organizations, with a complete ban on state and local governments from contracting with any labor union. Plaintiffs point to the following language as imposing the broad contracting ban:

This state or any political subdivision of this state may not negotiate with a labor organization an exclusive representation agreement, collective bargaining agreement, memorandum of understanding, contract or other agreement regarding the terms and conditions of employment.

HCR 2040, Section 11(G)

Arizona voters will see one fewer ballot measure in November: A judge has ruled HCR 2040, a measure aimed at restricting education unions, is unconstitutional. The Senate president and House speaker, both Republicans, were defending the measure, and the Senate spokesperson says they will not appeal.
Screenshot of court ruling that says:

SUPERIOR COURT OF ARIZONA
MARICOPA COUNTY
CV2026026256
07/24/2026

Intervenors' contextual interpretation is rejected. See Fann, at 1 61 (contextual analysis focusing on how the terms "act" and "measure" are used throughout the Arizona Constitution).

Reading subsection 11(G) in context with the Arizona Constitution, there is no ambiguity.
It flatly prohibits the State of Arizona or any local government from contracting with any labor union. As such -- and as Intervenors stipulate - its inclusion in HCR 2040 violates the Separate Amendment Rule.

When a proposed ballot measure violates the Separate Amendment Rule, severance of the
offending provision is not an option. The entire measure fails. Clean Elections Institute, Inc. v. Brewer, 209 Ariz. 241, 1 8 (2004).
Because the Court agrees with Plaintiffs' interpretation of HCR 2040, the Court does not reach Plaintiffs' alternative arguments, including whether the Act's title violates the Single Subject Rule.

One is a surprise “strike-everything” amendment introduced tonight. HCR 2048 is a constitutional amendment that bans the state from taking back scholarship money from children in military families. The legislation also would kill two voter initiatives to reform Arizona’s ESA school voucher program.

NOTWITHSTANDING ARTICLE IV, IF A BILL ENACTED INTO LAW OR A MEASURE APPROVED BY THE VOTERS ON OR AFTER NOVEMBER 1, 2026 VIOLATES SUBSECTION A OF THIS SECTION, THE ENTIRE BILL OR MEASURE IS VOID. C. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SECTION:

A CHILD OF A PERSON WHO MEETS ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
(a) IS SERVING ON ACTIVE DUTY AS A MEMBER OF THE ARMED

In Arizona election news: Karrin Taylor Robson has dropped out of the governor's race. That leaves U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs and U.S. Rep. David Schweikert in the Republican primary.
Karrin Taylor Robson for AZ Gov's X post: "Thank you, Arizona ❤️" with an attached screenshot of a statement:

Karrin Taylor Robson Suspends Campaign for Governor

After deep reflection, prayer, and many conversations with my family, I have decided to suspend my campaign for Governor.

This decision was not an easy one. I love Arizona deeply. It is the greatest state in our country, and I would do anything to protect it from the growing radicalism of the left.

I am truly humbled and grateful for the volunteers across our state and the tens of thousands of Arizonans who supported our campaign because they believe, as I do, that Arizona deserves strong conservative leadership, economic freedom, and a government that works for the people.

Together, we built a strong, serious, and grassroots-led campaign. We completed more than 300 campaign stops across Arizona, visited all 15 counties, earned the support of over 11,000 donors, collected over 11,000 petition signatures, and build one of the strongest fundraising operations in Arizona's history. I am proud of what our team accomplished and deeply grateful for the Arizonans who stepped up to support our efforts.

But we cannot afford a divisive Republican primary that drains resources and turns into months of intraparty attacks. It only weakens our conservative cause and gives the left exactly what they want: a fractured Republican Party heading in November. With so much on the line in 2026, I am not willing to contribute to that outcome.

While I am stepping back from this race, I am not stepping back from the fight for Arizona's future.

I encourage my supporters to stay engaged, stay involved, and stay focused on the mission ahead. Arizona is worth fighting for, and this election will determine the direction of our state for years to come.

I remain committed to helping Republicans win in 2026 and to ensuring Arizona remains strong, safe, and free for generations to come.

With gratitude,
Karrin Taylor Robson
