Unhinged #writing tip of the day: make out with a thesaurus. Go down some rabbit holes. Immerse yourself in words.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: Name your chapters; even if it’s just for you. Boil each scene down into a single word that paints a beautiful word picture FOR YOU.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: Stuck on what to do next in your story? Give yourself a mini choose your own adventure. Follow a flow of if v, then w, then x, then y, then z. Try a different few different next steps. You’ll quickly figure out at least a dozen ways you DON’T want the story to go.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: Plan to make your own audiobook. Don’t include accents you can’t do yourself. You’ll be surprised how this focuses down your story ideas.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: if you hate what’s popular, figure out its polar opposite. Write that. Romantasy? Naw, tragic litfic. 😂 That’ll sell, right?!?

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: Read as many first chapters as you can, especially in the genre you’re writing. They’re free on Amazon. You must know what types of beginnings catch readers in your genre.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: start your chapter scene with a line of dialogue. Maybe you’ll decide to go back and set the scene before your first character interaction, but you’ll be surprised what you can build between the lines of dialogue.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: whoever’s life is most destroyed by your inciting incident; that’s your main character. Unless they die, then they’re your murder victim.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: You need both scene and summary in every chapter. Show and tell, in other words. Do not tell us their nightly routine unless that routine is necessary for character-building, or is importantly interrupted. Even then maybe summarize THEN dive back into the narrative.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: if you feel like a section is dragging, give yourself arbitrary sentence length goals. Three compound sentences in a row? Make that middle one less than 5 words. Break up the sentences into smaller ones. Vary your sentence lengths by syllables if it feels good.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: if you’ve got writer's block or are struggling to start a writing habit, set your goals lower. Five sentences. 200 words. One15-minute session. It’s a starting place and it’s 100% more than nothing.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: Force yourself to try a different writing format for a while. At least three writing sessions. If you tend to write by hand, try voice recording. If you type, try writing by hand. Etc. You’ll be surprised what you learn about your own process.

#Writing advice of the day: Disregard the advice that if it’s boring to write, it’s boring to read. Sometimes it’s boring to write because you already imagined the scene a bunch in your head and now you’re having to slow down to get it out.

#Writing advice of the day: The goal of writing is communication. If you get feedback that feels wrong or harsh, this is a failure of communication, either from you or the person giving feedback. Consider both. Consider the gap between intention and execution, both in your writing and your feedback.

Unhinged #writing tip of the day: at the top of every new scene, list the primary stimulus for each of the 5 senses that your characters will encounter within it. All of these will help you ground yourself in the scene.

Here are some important reminders to keep handy BEFORE you click submit on your #PitchDis form next week.
Before You Hit Submit…
•	Double and triple check your email address. Please remember—you will NOT get your requests if your email is incorrect.
•	Review the entire form, including the pitch. Corrections can’t be made after you submit the form.
•	Remember—you can only submit one pitch per manuscript, and only two manuscripts. If you submit more than two, any after the first two will be automatically deleted.
•	If you don’t see your genre listed, select “Other” and type it in. Keep your genre as simple and general as possible. The more specific or detailed you get, the less likely it’ll show up during an agent and editor search or during filtering.
•	If you aren’t able to honestly confirm the last few questions on the form then you are not able to participate in the event.
•	If you’d like a copy of your form, make sure to select that option at the bottom of the screen before submitting.
•	If you see the confirmation page with the link to the badge that means your form was received.
•	Please send an email to contactpitchdis@gmail.com if any of the following occurs:
o	The form doesn’t work or won’t load.
o	The form won’t submit even after entering all of the required information.
o	You didn’t get a confirmation page after submitting.
