The deep Earth holds the vast majority of Earth's carbon. And, as it turns out, some parts of the mantle hold a lot more carbon than expected! Results now out in new paper led by my Collaborator Extraordinaire Wei-Qi Zhang: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New paper out on our record-breaking mantle peridotite hole on the Atlantic seafloor. This one is on hydrogen production and carbon compounds in ultramafic systems - essential for understanding subseafloor life! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Really upset and angry with my alma mater @vuamsterdam.bsky.social for closing their Earth Sciences degree and firing the associated staff. It shows a profound lack of understanding of the role of the Earth Sciences in the green transition. And once people are gone the expertise is lost...

Really proud of PhD student Max Jansen, who has just published his first PhD paper, working out the relationships between depleted and enriched melts at mid-ocean ridges. t.co/FdADYSrw0y
