It’s beautiful! I prefer a slim, pointy tip because I use a finger-snapping motion to flick my supported spindle, but that’s just a personal preference. Yours would work just as well with a hitch and a different spinning motion. The heft is fine - every spindle gets heavier as you wind yarn on.

It’s beautiful! You’re doing great. I haven’t set mine up yet, tho I did prep a big practice braid and clear space on the coffee table tonight so I can try it out tomorrow. For now I’m spindling more plain white merino.

This is my traveling stool. It’s rated to 300lbs, 2” thick when folded, and weighs almost nothing, for packing in suitcases. Though it would also be great for use in small spaces without much storage room. I’m 4’11”. I absolutely will need it every time I travel!

Tree crew is moving on to the stand by the road now. They don’t expect to block access, and think they’ll be done by around 2:30. Best part of using the same co for 10+ years? They say they love working in my forest bc it’s fun. ❤️❤️❤️
My forest 😍😍😍 Not an area we’re working on today, but we’ve done this part in the past. That cedar on the front left edge is about 7 feet from the back wall of the house. I call it Grandmother Cedar (Grandpa Cedar is in the front).

I do leave it alone forest management. We only take out dangerous (to buildings/people) trees, leave habitat stumps, and let the debris stay to build soil as much as possible. We have a LOT of fauna living in our forest - just yesterday had deer foraging in the front yard and last year got to watch a family of barred owls grow up in one of the habitat stumps out back!

Orphaned socks make excellent yarn bags! This one is for my traveling socks, an ongoing project that lives in my backpack and gets a lot of rough handling. Nobody likes untangling yarn. (This sock is a dimensional traveler. No one in this house had this pair and we don’t go to laundromats! 👀)

Look what my mom found!
A very amateur small watercolor painting of a stand of river grasses against a hazy grey-blue sky. From an art kayak trip with my dad around 2000. We went out in kayaks, with a little packet of watercolor paper and paintbox, and painted what we saw, using the water we were floating in. One of my favorite memories! Dad volunteered with that group for years.

My in-laws are in Kerrville. They’re fine, but the trailer park behind their house (double wide trailer) is completely gone. We were planning a trip to visit and renting a cabin in that park.
View through the backyard fence at my in-laws’ place. Where a trailer park used to be, there is only brown water and downed trees.

I did some DIY on the keychain @irisflorafawn.bsky.social sent with my bracelet! It was too pretty to just be a zipper pull on my knitting project bag. Now I have matching earrings and a cool addition that I can wear with all sorts of other Pride jewelry in my collection! 😍🤩😎
Bonus keychain came with my custom bracelet! Custom Bi Pride dangles with semiprecious round beads and silver findings and rainbow heart dangle. Shown with maker’s business card and starry moon tulle packaging I turned the dangles into matching earrings with my very modest jewelry skills and small cache of findings. Heart dangle added to rainbow studs for an asymmetrical earrings look! The dangle just slips over the post, so I can use it with other studs or wear it as a pendant, etc.

One of my watercolor instruction books! Details in alt text.
Book titled Watercolor for the artistically undiscovered by Thacher Hurd and John Cassidy. It includes both glossy instructions pages and watercolor paper pages so you can do the lessons and experiments.

I thrifted mine so some of the early pages are partially used. I don’t mind! I can still use them for pen and ink detail and other practice and I’ve got a separate watercolor paper pad. Sample of a practice page with various watercolor swatches Sample of an unworked practice page

Acrylic, by me, ~2015. A mashup of Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Nightmare Before Christmas. Paint and Sip class with friends. I was at the back of the room and saw the moon and stars as smeared orbs rather than the dashed technique of Van Gogh. I love it so much.

Alt text tutorial! Got an image with text? Here’s how to make alt text in seconds! It took me about 10 seconds to make those screenshots, and another minute or so to add the alt text captions. Feel free to share widely! #alttext #blind #esl #lowvision
Add your image to your post. Click on Alt. Click on the alt icon in the bottom right of your image. Then click on Copy All. Paste in the Alt Text box. Tada! Your text is now in the text box in a format that screen readers and the Translate utility can read!

Look it over to see if it needs any corrections, and add any additional information or description you think it needs. For instance, if there’s a graph to describe or a visual component that adds context.

I usually have several plain socks for donations being knitted. One on the couch, one in my daily carry bag, etc. I can never remember what sizes (number of stitches) they are from the first to the second. So I made stitch markers in the usual sizes! Got the number beads but had everything else 🧶🧦
A sock being knitted. A stitch marker with number beads reading 72 is visible, indicating that the sock is being knitted over 72 stitches.

A white woman’s left hand and wrist against a purple background, displaying a tattoo that reads, in Hebrew characters, “Am Yisrael Chai.” A red string bracelet is on her wrist.

The phrase translates as “ The people of Israel live.” It is a cultural slogan of resilience and resistance.

Then there’s this. The most basic function for a convention, selling registrations, isn’t accessible BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION. They offer only a website@ address for problems, not a phone number to register with an actual person. Maybe email your best guess at what info for registration and hope?
Where We’re Improving

In our efforts to bring our website up to standard, we are targeting the following areas:

Our membership registration system is not fully keyboard navigable and may not work properly with some assistive technology. We will continue working on improving its accessibility throughout the year.
This is part of our broader effort to make everyone’s experience at Seattle Worldcon 2025 a welcoming and enjoyable one. Please note that while we make every effort to provide information accessible for all users, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third party websites to which we may link.
