DENIZ-a Turkish name, meaning “sea”. More commonly a male name, but can be for anyone. #sculpture #clay #ceramic #texture #seaurchin #skull #porcelain #paperclay #coralreef #claymask
A coral-like porcelain skull mask. Highly textured and sculptural, the colours are bright and fresh, with turquoise, orange, lime green and white. The skull has white wavy fins radiating across the forehead, with lime green coral honeycomb, orange anemones, electric blue glass-filled craters and a background of turquoise sponge. The mask is displayed at an angle.

Sorry, I’ve been on holiday and got out of the routine of posting. Here are the latest pieces out of the kiln! #ceramic #porcelain #clay #sculpture #coral #coralreef #scarab #skull
A chaotic jumble of coral-like ceramic sculptures in a crate, just out of the kiln. The colours are bright, with a lot of orange, green and turquoise, and the white of unglazed porcelain. There are lots of textural and sculptural motifs, including waves, fans, spirals, craters, brain coral, anemones and ridges. There is a predominantly blue, coral skull mask, centrally amongst the pieces. Also, slightly out of place, a small green acorn and two scarab beetles, one a minty green, the other bright orange.

PEARL-a self-explanatory ocean name. Just a touch of ash glaze on this one. The qualities of the fired, unglazed porcelain are so lovely, almost like alabaster. #sculpture #MarineLife #clay #ceramic #texture #seaurchin #skull #porcelain #coralreef #claymask
A white skull mask, made of porcelain, displayed at an angle.
The skull is covered in coral-like textures, with craters, petals and sponge-like pits. She also has a number of small finger-like protrusions, sticking out randomly, with a small group on the right hand cheekbone. She has some small, feathered, fan-like pieces on the forehead and one on the left cheek. The only colour is in glassy aqua craters, scattered mainly across the cheekbones.
The textures are delicate and lace-like.

And another. This one is named Laccadive Sea. In my hand this time, to give a better idea of scale. My pieces are small, but highly detailed. #MarineLife #ceramic #porcelain #coral #reef #sculpture #colourful
A teardrop-shaped porcelain sculpture, held in an outstretched hand. The shape is colourful and highly textured with clusters of large yellow and orange anemone-like craters. The rest of the space is taken up with some large orange rosettes, with turquoise glass centres and smaller fuchsia pink craters, all on a turquoise pitted background.

Painted for a wonderful patron who requested a hopeful faery... a faery of light, a faery of warmth, of love, of hope and happiness. A faery who welcomes back the light, pushes back the darkness and sings songs of wishes for the future. Happy holidays, merry Xmas, happy Yule to all.

Another of the 100 teardrop-shaped wall sculptures, all based on different areas of sea. This one is named Sea of Japan. Still some more to glaze. I hope to display them all together at some point. #MarineLife #ceramic #porcelain #coral #reef #sculpture #colourful
A teardrop-shaped coral-like ceramic sculpture. It has three large, feathered, orange fans with lime green centres and to the top right, jutting out along the side, are five red, forked tongue-shaped branches. The body of the piece, mostly disguised by the sculptural elements, is turquoise sponge with a scattering of aqua glassy craters…these also make their way onto the centres of the fans.
The piece looks like a coral outcrop in vibrant colours.

One of 100 teardrop-shaped wall sculptures, all based on different areas of sea. This one is named Ningaloo Coast. Still some more to glaze. I hope to display them all together at some point. #MarineLife #ceramic #porcelain #coral #reef #sculpture #colourful
A teardrop shaped porcelain wall sculpture, encrusted with orange and turquoise brain coral through the main portion. The two sides have a red-orange sponge texture with emerald green craters and there is a row of short spikes along the left-hand side. It’s a riot of colour and texture

A small, sleek black cat laying on her side, semi-curled, on some flat-packed boxes on a beige carpet. Luckily, the carpet doesn’t look too dirty.

No problem:) Not all of my pieces are named, but Polonia is one of my comets, and Sea of Japan is one of 100 pieces, all named after bodies of water. I’m hoping to have all 100 glazed and displayed together soon! Website/shop is lisaseaurchin.co.uk but new pieces will take a while to get there.

…dry-brushed across the tops of the texture. I don’t clear glaze over the top, this keeps the vibrancy and also the sharp details in the texture. Of course, there are always exceptions, so the rosette-like craters in the piece in the top right of the photo have watered-down Real Orange and…

Sometimes I start with Yellow v-308 underglaze and for deeper oranges I start straight onto the bisque-fired porcelain with watered down Real Orange v-384. I then builder up in watered-down layers: Flame Orange v-389, Radiant Red v-388 and Red v-382, often adding a layer of thick Yellow v-308…

The names of the pieces, or the glazes? I’ve already prepared a list of the colours I’ve used: Theres quite a variety with the orange and reds. Mostly Amaco velvet underglazes, applied in watered down layers, building up with different colours to highlight the textures and add richness.

Another batch out of the kiln. I always use commercial underglazes and glazes and I’m happy to let you know the names of them…just ask! #porcelain #ceramic #colorful #colourful #rainbow #joyous #coralreef #coral
A collection of coral-like ceramic sculptures just out of the kiln. The colours are bright, with a lot of orange, green and turquoise, along with some bright white of the unglazed porcelain. There are lots of textural and sculptural motifs, including spikes, petals, waves, fans, branches, craters, brain coral, anemones and ridges.
To the bottom left, there is a predominantly white coral skull mask, with fans and spikes. To the right of it, a spiral shape with short spikes. Above the mask is a small coral comet in green and white.
As the pieces are all stacked together in a box, it’s sometimes hard to see the individual pieces, it reads as a cacophony of forms, textures and colours-quite chaotic!

We had sun last week! Unglazed porcelain can glow with strong sunlight behind it if it’s thin enough. EUPHEME- a moon of Jupiter Available (amongst others) on my website lisaseaurchin.co.uk from 5pm BST this afternoon. #sculpture #porcelain #clay #ceramic #texture
A small porcelain sculpture, held up to the sun with a blue sky behind it. The sculpture is white, with lots of texture and the porcelain glows where its thinnest, notably through the feather texture on the organically shaped fans, and through some little starburst craters on the main body of the piece. There are also some short spikes, randomly placed, but these are too solid to let the light through.

Again, I need to get myself motivated, so I’ll announce a shop update now, then I’ll have to stick to it! So, new pieces on my website 5pm BST (GMT+1) on Tuesday 24th July. (lisaseaurchin.co.uk or link in bio.) #sculpture #porcelain #clay #ceramic #texture #seaurchin #coral
A coral-like ceramic sculpture with glowing colours. There are lots of textural and sculptural motifs, including vivid yellow spikes and lime green fans with orange and red petals towards the base and more lime green in the centre. The main body of the piece has a white sponge base with peach coloured craters and turquoise starbursts.

The piece is asymmetric with the yellow spikes emerging from between the fans in the centre and towards the bottom left.

A Sun, of sorts. #ocean #coral #ceramic #colorpop #sculpture #yellow #sun #porcelain #MarineArt
A porcelain wall sculpture. It has a central round section with a white sponge-like texture. There are some peachy ridged craters and tiny yellow spots. There are three layers of vivid yellow wavy tentacles radiating from the main piece, to form a sun-like ocean creature. There’s one large set like sun rays, a smaller set closer to the centre and six short spikes in the centre.

Dropped off in #Nailsea #NorthSomerset this afternoon.
A ceramic toadstool, based on a shaggy ink cap, leaning against the bottom of a carved wooden sculpture. The bottom of the sculpture shows a swimming otter. Unseen, further up the sculpture, are many other carved wild animals.

First mushroom out of the mould, I wasn’t sure if I’d have it fired in time for tomorrow’s #gameofshrooms created by @attayumfactory on Insta. Not sure where I’ll hide it yet. South Bristol or North Somerset somewhere! #ceramic #toadstool #mushroom #sculpture #shaggyinkcap #artdrop #arthunt
A ceramic toadstool sculpture, held in an outstretched hand. It’s 3D, but flat on the back, so it can be hung on the wall.
It’s based on a shaggy ink cap, so it’s a tall, quite narrow, mushroom, with a long stalk. It has a shaggy texture in cream and brown and the black gills curl up slightly at the edge.
