The ARCs for Mother, Rebel, Misfit, Sleuth have gone out! This is a story about society's attitudes to women and why it's so important women make a stand against misogyny. It's also quite fun, and there's a big, slobbery dog called Jason Statham in it, who's a softy really...

I asked authors about how they keep going when it gets tough. Hesper Leveret said, ‘I wrote a very self-indulgent novella about time travel, drinking and designer clothes. It helped me to rediscover the joy of writing for its own sake.’ Read more: lisanicholasauthor.substack.com/p/finding-ha...

I have four items on my to-do list, but one of them is “write book three” of my cozy crime series, and I feel maybe I need to break my list down into more manageable items.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Family Next Door by @charlottestevenson.bsky.social is a fantastically creepy domestic thriller, with twists and turns that had me captivated and wonderfully drawn characters who kept me guessing to the end. The plot is totally original - it's edge-of-seat stuff! Highly recommend!

Gotta love going through the next round of edits and realising your editor is literally ALWAYS RIGHT. Why don't I just listen first time around? Accepting edits I've previously debated and re-reading, saying, 'Oh! Yeah! Actually, that's loads better.' Dear editor, I'm sorry.

I love it when people leave WhatsApp groups. DAVE LEFT. It feels so dramatic - what an exit, Dave. In real life, it would be the equivalent of standing up mid dinner party, scraping your chair back noisily, saying nothing, before turning on your heels & striding out, the door slamming behind you.

To clarify, no, Alison Hammond (lovely though she is) didn’t “write a book”. Writing a publishable book requires 100s of hours of specialist, expert work. #Bombshell was written by professional author Lisa Bent (in consultation with Alison) Not that you’d know it😕 #TheActualWriter #CelebrityFiction
Screenshot of the book’s “about the author page” which has three whole paragraphs of a biography of Alison and then in tiny writing right at the bottom of the page has the words “with Lisa Bent”.

Writers, what's your genre, or are you genre-fluid? I broadly describe mine as cosy crime, but I overlap into women's fiction, and something a little darker / edgier. (Glad I'm not in charge of marketing it). Wonder if anyone else struggles to fit into one simple category? Or not! 📚✍️
