I'm always amused when someone asks, "do you talk to your cat/dog/bird/hamster?" Who DOESN'T?! Of course we talk to them. Iguanas, ferrets - whatever! If we've invited them in to stay, they're members of the family.

It's a challenge to lure people away from their habits. If you're in the habit of logging what you read and writing reviews on Goodreads, for example, it's not going to be easy to get you to leave.

We often want to put ourselves out there and do something kind for a stranger. Sometimes, our minds jump to the worst possible reaction to it. And I'm here to tell you that sometimes that worst case can come true. Not in the big moments, but with little ones. We can't possibly know how evolved or emotionally intelligent a stranger is.
