It's really great for editing, but creating a post is a bit annoying to get the frontmatter right. So I made a custom CMS app to post like I would on social media that just writes directly into Obsidian.

Content on my website liquidx.net is backed out of my Obsidian Vault. I have a convoluted way that involved Obsidian Sync, a server I wrote a few years ago that converts the files into something that velite and SvelteKit munges into a website.

We had a great Geo Tokyo Meetup last night! Highly appreciate all the people showing up and participating. I built a website for the meetup after the 8th one, I think it was worth documenting all the map links and demos we shared and discussed. geotokyo.com/meetups/2026...

Most of June was spent on this: my hyper-personal finance app that's designed for my needs and only my needs. It takes all my financial documents, uses an LLM to read and classify the contents and produces visual analysis of my financial world in a way I understand. liquidx.net/posts/2026/f...

I managed to get resident.inanimate.tech working to send custom gradients to m5sticks3 over wifi. The hot reloading is like magic. Thanks @genmon.fyi for putting this together! I also managed to hook up the mic, now wondering if I could make http requests... 🤔

I added colors and all sorts of controls. Honestly, 90% of my usage of AI was making it remove all the UI it generated. But one cool thing I was able to do with ease was animating the lines which I've always wanted to do.

I made a thing yesterday, and today I made it better. Revisited an old project of mine from several years ago rendering open train data from the Japan government. At the time I barely got it working but this time I had a stab at it with AI and really made it work. train-lines.liquidx.net

Finally deleted all my tweets from Twitter. The web API rate limits to 200 deletes per 15 mins, and I had 13209 tweets - roughly 16 hours if nothing went wrong (and it did a few times.) My Twitter For You feed immediately went from geeky japanese cartographers to AI bros arguing with each other.

Grateful for all the opportunities. The opportunity to travel the world, to work on the first iPhone app, to bring people together, to work with wonderful people, to redesign Google, to work on my favourite products and to eat all the free food.

That's wonderful you shared that! I think I came up with this nickname/alias on IRC in around 1995 just stuck with it! I think I did find there were some other people who had the same name afterwards. Thanks for sharing and also appreciate you changed to a more unique name! Where are you based?

I dislocated my knee a month ago snowboarding, and so I've been channelling all my frustration and energy into building this big site about Japanese snowboards. The world of Japanese snowboards is very fragmented and not so well documented, but also huge and fascinating.

For many years, I have wanted to get a Sigma fp camera. Now I even want it more after finding out how they build everything in Aizu, Fukushima. www.sigma-global.com/en/about/
Sigma is a Japanese manufacturer of photographic lenses and cameras. Our production is based entirely in Japan, with our headquarters in Kanagawa and our factory in Aizu, Fukushima.
We have been a family-owned company since our founding by Michihiro Yamaki in 1961. Today, Sigma is managed by his son, Kazuto Yamaki. It is this independence that allows us to explore different approaches and pursue our ideal of craftsmanship.
Our Aizu factory was established in 1973. To this day, it remains Sigma's sole manufacturing base, with every step of production - from initial concept to optical engineering, product assembly, quality control and even parts sourcing - taking place in Japan. Although not without its challenges, this conscious decision ensures seamless collaboration across departments and partner companies, quick response times and rigorous quality control at every stage of production. Our deep ties to the Tohoku region, particularly Aizu, have allowed us to become part of the local community, to support its culture, to advance local technology, and to nurture the expertise of our employees.

Yeah I've done it only with Google APIs, they are still the best placedb in the world. The way the app works is it queries once for the place info and stores it for use locally on the device.
020
Alastair Tse @liquidx.net · 17/09/2025
that's cool. is that something that often happens? I feel though with LLMs now, you can get at least close to interpreting how to query the db if you had the data.

Found that these coding agents are great at writing code, but really bad at coming up with good UX. Most of my interventions were making it use standard components, fixing icons, placement, etc. Also it got stuck on integration with the Activity Recognition API which took a full day to resolve.
