Excited we can generate nephron cells for preclinical trials. We will continue to perfect the proximal tubule model and are going deep into understanding nephron injury programs and following up on druggable targets that could solve acute kidney injury and maladaptive repair.

Mostly, just advertising Jack Schnell's* impeccable taste in figure color choices. *soon to be first set of Ph.D. graduates from lab @lindstromlab.bsky.social. Here he describes the development of nephron cells in stem cell derived kidneys.

Recent preprint with @leonardomorsut.bsky.social. We perform detailed spatial transcriptional analyses of human kidney development to resolve how nephrons pattern, and build synthetic cell organizers to copy axial patterning using stem cells derived nephrons. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Defining and Controlling Axial Nephron Patterning in Human Kidney Organoids with Synthetic Wnt-Secreting Organizers
Current human pluripotent stem cell-derived kidney organoids contain nephron-like structures that lack organotypic patterning. It is thought that during human development, nephrons form their proximal...

Happy holidays! A very cool looking kidney organoid, courtesy of senior Ph.D. student MaryAnne Achieng in the @lindstromlab.bsky.social.
A fluorescently stained kidney organoid made from stem cells. It shows cells and nuclei that are the precursors of potassium reabsorbing cells in the adult nephron.

Want to highlight how a really fun collaborative project, Nils is as close as it gets to the prototypical omniscient kidney developmental biologist, it was so fun to learn from him about this fascinating developmental system. @lindstromlab.bsky.social
