Um. The William Penn foundation offered bridge funding to keep the academy of natural sciences open for a year, and the people in charge said “no one is helping things by offering Band-Aids”. Jesus Christ. share.inquirer.com/KXxZTj

William Penn Foundation offers funding to keep Academy of Natural Sciences museum open
A Drexel spokesperson did not say whether the school had declined the offer, but said, “No proposal has been presented that would provide a permanent, sustainable path forward" for the museum.

Anybody who would decide to close this museum does not have Philadelphia’s best interests at heart.

What do Madagascar hissing cockroaches do when the air gets dry? Our Animal Behavior students @binghamtonu.bsky.social @harpurcollege.bsky.social figured it out! doi.org/10.1111/eth.... Students designed a study showing that cockroaches snuggle up, or not, depending on humidity. 🪳💧 🎉 Great work!

High dissolved oxygen extends dive duration and suggests physical gill use in a vertebrate
Highlighted Article: High levels of dissolved oxygen in water extend dive durations in a semi-aquatic Anolis lizard, suggesting that anoles may rebreathe bubbles to uptake oxygen from stream water.

Water anoles take a bubble of air down when they submerge, which they breathe like a tiny scuba tank, and now @lindseyswierk.bsky.social & co reveal that the reptiles may also be using the bubble like a gill, to breathe oxygen directly from the water journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/...
