With CDC staff & programs cuts, the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) could be at risk. MMP is a rich data source on people w/ HIV & has been core to much of our HIV work for over a decade. Eliminating it would create a data gap. A thread highlighting some of our MMP based work:

⚡KFF’s @lindseydawson.bsky.social writes about the implications of a potential funding cut to the CDC’s HIV prevention budget. #QuickTake on.kff.org/4izGLZR
FF graphic featuring a quote from Lindsey Dawson, KFF Associate Director for HIV Policy. It says, “Eliminating [HIV prevention] funding could jeopardize recent successes in addressing the nation’s HIV epidemic, including those related to the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative, which the first Trump administration created... Diminished prevention efforts would likely lead to an increase in HIV incidence, with negative implications for individual well-being, public health, and health costs.”

President Trump’s Executive Order that aims to restrict youth access to gender affirming care doesn’t immediately change policies or regulations, but there’s significant confusion. Here’s a look at state responses and legal challenges filed by the @aclu.org and other groups⤵️
KFF graphic showing the key provisions of President Trump’s Executive Order on Gender Affirming Care:

Directs agency/department heads to take steps to prohibit those receiving certain federal research grants, (e.g. hospitals and medical schools), from proving gender affirming care to children.

Directs the Secretary of HHS to take regulatory and sub-regulatory actions to end gender affirming care for children across a range of programs and limit explicit protections for such access.

Directs the Secretary of Defense to “commence a rulemaking or sub-regulatory action” further restricting access to gender affirming care for children in TRICARE.

Directs the Office of Personnel Management Director to limit access to care in coverage for federal employees’ families by including a provision in two federal health benefits programs requiring eligible carriers to exclude “coverage for pediatric transgender surgeries or hormone treatments.
