Running the Endurance Life Dorset Coast marathon this weekend can be summed up by this sign found on the coastal path - too windy to stand, so muddy you fell over again if you could, and a storm surge that meant a choice of detouring up the cliff or running through the sea. End of term #Type2Fun 🏃‍♀️

I don’t know if this is a subliminal statement about the state of the academic jobs market, or just some epic recycling, but I have found a good use for my #PhD! (Fear not, it was just a draft copy)

More skyscapes, this one from a @uniofstandrews.bsky.social workshop on “Forecasting Rare and Severe Events: Behaviour, Verification, and Judgment” - discussing shared challenges with a truly interdisciplinary group & learning about forecasting avalanches with even less data than floods! ❄️⛷️⚠️

I had a really uplifting day yesterday at the UK River Summit and Festival. An eclectic gatherings of people with a range of interests and motivations, but there is space for more academics (and definitely more hydrologists) in these important conversations www.theriversummit.com

I have recently been gifted this beautiful piece of hydrometry history (it was originally given to my grandad). Some internet sleuthing suggests it’s from ~1940 but I’d love to know if any hydrometry experts know anymore about when current meters like this would have been used?
