Cumberland's Town Council voted 6-1 on Sept. 16 to list data centers as a prohibited use in the town's zoning ordinance after public testimony in support.

If data centers were a country, the country would be projected to rank sixth-highest in power use in 2030.

"It feels that no matter how valuable or sacred a place is, the administration is willing to trade it all in."
