The continuing quest to make low poly and procedural gen pretty... (hopefully with better video)

But, what if you wanted to edit trees? USE THE PROCEDURAL TREE EDITOR.... supports most common types of trees.... and you can make weird alien shit too.

The game is procedurally generated... so, how do you create new environments? Using the BIOME tab in the editor. I want people to be able to mod... want to turn the zombie game into medieval magic fantasy world... well, with the editing tools, you can.

Except for... waterways.... chunk generation, on the server, for the zombie game's voxel terrain is down to 1-4 milliseconds... with some more complicated generations occasionally reaching 10-15 ms. That's... not bad.

When you got more then zombies and other players to worry about in your zombie game...

LillyByte @lillybyte.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I was able to get terrain generation down to 1-4 ms per chunk... which is super important when the target is to host 100+ players.

I think I'm really digging procedural generation... I don't need to model 100s of assets, and it works well for low poly games. Gonna be the No Man's Sky of zombie games at this rate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wuw...

The game might be low poly jank... but at least it'll be pretty to look at.

And, as I said... Vibe coders are gonna be unemployed too. Who will hire a vibe coder when, eventually, the AI will be good enough for someone to go, "Make me X software", walk away from the computer.... and it will be made by the time they've finished a meal. Nobody gonna be working.

LillyByte @lillybyte.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Mark my words, we have maybe two years left at the current rate AI is evolving before software is a dead market for anyone but machines. If you're still working... get your bag before the truck is empty. Or, go find a labour job or something. The future looks... bleak... for software.

The clankers are taking over. People say "making games will be like crafts where people will still want handmade games". Except.. handmade crafts usually just sit somewhere to be seen... not played. AI capability is doubling every 3-4 months... everybody gonna be out of work, vibe coders included.

Every time I try to model people... I end up with something I feel is way too distorted. I can never ever get anything right when it comes to people... monsters, sure, environment items, sure, buildings sure, objects sure.... people... NEVER.

Jank physics and vehicles... in this game: vehicles are constructed through json definitions and model parts... you can pretty much create ANY kind of vehicle you'd want: bicycles, trucks, semis, airplanes, airships... with turrets and inventory containers. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjL4...

How do you tank in a zombie survival game?

I'm implementing vehicles in my zombie horde game. But, how do you do fully server-authoritative physics without actually doing physics and bogging the server down? By reaching back into how they did arcade games in the 1980s.

Its not AI... just procedural sound editing... and sound DRAWING... which is kind of amazing.

Listen, I'm not sponsored by these guys because I'm not big enough to sponsored by anyone. But, if you need really good sound editing and sound effect library for game dev... tsugi-studio.com/web/en/index... I have almost all the DSPs AND the big GameSynth. It is ❤️

Just tested the zombie horde game with 3 players and THOUSANDS of zombies in a single area.... SMOOTH AS BUTTER, even through Steam's relay network.

Ever make physics collisions work without actually using physics collisions... you know what I'm talking about. Old school shit... 1980s level arcade game shit, just on a bigger scale.

I still think the funniest part about this video... is that trees and bushes are procedurally generated by seeds. Cracks me up... god my humor sucks.

I used to license audio and music from sound libraries... But now, there's so much in there that is AI generated... I never take the risk, because a lot of it is decent enough that you can't tell if it is AI or someone who is just decent at sound.

First, procedural trees.... Next, procedural buildings... very simple, but it is a "simple" game prototype. :)

The server is running 100,000 zombies... But, only about 250 or so can be visible to any single player at a given time.... cuz, you know... your view is blocked. 🤣💀 Or, that's what I'm going with.

Taking some inspiration from No Man's Sky.... playing with procedural tree/grass generation from a MMO -> clients. Just sending seed numbers with tiles, streaming in real time... no actual objects on the client, everything is generated procedurally.

Did you know the world is ending? Did you know the world has been ending since I was born in the 1970s... and probably before. Here's what I've learned... the fucker doesn't end. It just keeps on going. I'm tried, bro. Can it end already?

Can we get a flag that doesn't only work with children's bedroom themes or traumatic hoarder homes? I'll still fly it, but I feel like I'm advertising more for crayola than a cause.

No indie engine has ever come even, remotely, close to Unity or Unreal for stability, functions, and features. So, there's that.

The southern states are always talking about civil war and how'd they can't wait for another to happen... Such big talk for a bunch of losers who lost the last one and, literally, used a dish rag to surrender.

No solo/indie engine will do better than Unity or Unreal, except in small, "niche" domains. The closest engine that could, possibly, out-do them is O3DE... if they ever get C#... because nobody wants to work with Lua, lol.

LillyByte @lillybyte.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
No engine will do what I want, the way that I want, except for one I build for myself. Then I get exactly what I want, the way I made what I want.

There's two reasons. Cost of materials. Cost of labour. China accessibility to both much cheaper... while, somehow, still maintaining better quality. And people lament about "cheap Chinese labour", but they have way cheaper living costs... and better/cheaper foods than we do.

I didn't really like turning 50 this year... But you know what... the older you get, the less care you actually give about how other people perceive you. It only gets better to get older.

Yes, still working on my own game engine... the one that focuses on performance and pretty... instead of trying to do everything... and then doing everything just barely. Still no interest in having it run on Linux or Mac or consoles. I want a dedicated engine for one platform and no sacrifices.

If the NPC is just there and does nothing but block the spot... I'd call it a lazy solution... which aren't always wrong, because sometimes "it just gotta go".

Isn't it sad, that the best possible ending to AI is that it keeps humans around as pets? Or it leads us to a 1984 situation? And those are the best possible endings.
