As much as Lily is really enjoying Ave Mujica time in VN form... there's a small medium large part of us going "we miss Arale... we miss Nonochan..." we would like to see the cuties soon...

Torn between wanting to enter the state where millsage and Dumb Rock posts aren't automatically stress inducing spoilers (and wanting to take part in the conversations) and our outright refusal to rush through the even the story that we've watched in anime form (and doing everything in order too)...

pink in the night (2019)

lyric comic to pink in the night, by mitski. page 1 text: and i know i've kissed you before, but i didn't do it right. scene 1: a little boy and girl are sitting in the rain. the boy wipes away tears, having tripped and scratched a knee. the girl leans forward to kiss the small wound. scene 2: the two friends are in elementary school, holding hands. the boy looks at a picture depicting a mom, dad, and child.

page 2 text: can i try again, try again, try again. scene 1: high school. they lie on the floor during a study session, but they only have eyes for each other. scene 2: college. the same couple, only now they are two girls, kissing in bed. scene 3: the girls are getting married, exchanging a sweet kiss in a field of flowers. sunset colors cast warm light onto their wedding dresses.

page 3 text: try again, and again, and again. scene 1: the girls are moving in together. one dozes off against an unpacked moving box as the other kisses her head. scene 2: disneyland. both wear minnie mouse ears as they take a selfie, laughing at the kiss mark one has left on her wife's cheek. scene 3: the childhood friends have grown older. one woman hides a bouquet behind her back as they kiss over breakfast.

page 4 text: and again, and again, and again? scene 1: the women wake up in bed together, hints of grey in their hair. one kisses the other's bare shoulder. scene 2: a winter walk. they kiss as their dog plays in the snow. scene 3: the shore of a beach. the wives have greying hair and fine wrinkles, but they're still just as in love. they hold each other close, laughing, full of affection.

After reading through all the yuri discourse of the past few weeks, Lily had decided to weigh in with her opinion but. We don't know. We only have doll emotions and doll opinions, so we don't know. We can't define or categorise anything. Good luck out there. We love you.

It's almost funny how scared Lily is by the concept of cave-diving and spelunking. As if it's something that might accidentally happen to her. Normal fears to have and encounter, spider in your room and lightbulb dying and being trapped 120 feet underground upside down in a dead end of a cave.

lily doesnt dislike "consume" for experiencing media cause she does. she eats it. she takes your favourite song and show and book and bites into it and lets the juices run down her face and then like a semi-sentient bomb calorimeter burns it down into the ash and pulp she paper maches her form from.

The thing is, Lily DOES like the minecraft doll mod's concept, but that's not the ideal form of doll in minecraft Lily wants to be. Her idols are Shanghai and Hourai, she wants to be a hardworking and industrious little doll. This Doll Supplies Aeronautics Parts.

Genuinely, this completely rules

－Recently, the game has been going viral on X for its beautiful undressing animations. I’ve even read in one of your previous interviews that the development team practiced stripping themselves as reference for the undressing animations. What was the process behind making the animations actually like?

Matsui:

I’d love to know how far that story has spread. It’s true.

First, we write a plot for each undressing scene, then draw storyboards, exactly as the original team did. Then the real work begins, because the animation is essentially all keyed by hand. A designer moves the clothing’s 3D model, frame by frame, manually. It really is pretty much like the claymation method I mentioned.

We did try automating it with physics simulation first, but it was a total failure. The cloth moved in a physically correct way, but had absolutely no allure. We learned a profound lesson: accuracy and sensuality are two unrelated properties. In the end, we accepted that humans would have to do all of it.

Then VR adds its own weight. In a normal game, if something becomes awkward, you can cut away or swap models between scenes. In VR, the player can look from any angle at any time, so none of those tricks are available. The same model has to undress convincingly no matter where you’re standing. When I described this to a designer at another studio, he said, “I would never do that.” I’ve chosen to take it as a compliment.

And then, yes, the part you’ve read about. The undressing motions themselves use motion capture, but the deeper problem was that nobody actually knew the correct rhythm and order in which a person takes off clothes. So, the directors gathered and undressed themselves as reference. “That zipper is coming down too fast.” “She’d pause once before slipping her shoulder out.” These were serious, sober discussions. For compliance reasons, the Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns team works in a walled-off section of our office – and that was the moment those walls truly earned their keep.
