hotaru is so good at this happiness thing

Two panel comic depicting characters from millsage
Kanata: "I want every person who hears my music to be happy"
Hotaru: "Oh, I understand! Unpersoning myself as we speak"

thinking about how the last fight of part 1 of zakuzaku actors is fun in the exact same way a precure all-stars fight is (although I sadly did not have a light stick to wave for our king delichi)

she wanted a different ending for her so much, however no matter how much of yourself you give up you will never appease someone who sees you as a monster as tempting as that path may be.

goodbye lara episode 1, grace saying "I will take your voice"

goodbye lara episode 1, grace saying "a single misspoken word can be enough for them to ostracize you."

goodbye lara episode 11, grace's lover saying "mermaids are monsters who manipulate us with their sweet words"

watching goodbye lara every week

lara: "I just need to find my true love"

Mari standing still as a personified camera gestures to her.

both goodbye lara and star detective precure's latest eps have been circling in my brain this week. whenever i can stop thinking about one of them i start thinking about the other again.

the sayonara lara ost has been stuck in my head for the past few weeks and i don't see it leaving anytime soon.

Lilac @lilacgalaxy.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

In this week's sayonara lara, I found it interesting that the dagger wants to eat a soul, which is like the entire motivating factor of the original little mermaid story (she doesn't necessarily want a lover, she wants an eternal soul and is told to get it you need to marry a human).

the hard part about talking about yumemita is the multiple levels of kayfabe that is happening. you've got on one level a show about vtuber girls in a band, and on a second level you get those same vtubers as actual streamers who are voicing the fictional versions of themselves in the show.

am glad my sleeping schedule is right now is around 11am-7pm because I don't think I'd be able to do any work during the day with how hot it is this week.

just finished watching, definitely enjoyable! I did eventually come around on the characters as the show went on, just took a while to get there (and honestly the addition of chin-lan in the second half helped so much). The direction remained real fun throughout, ended up being my fav of the season.

started playing "rhapsody - a musical adventure" and wow what a charming game so far. I love the ambition to make a silly fairytale shoujo romance that's half musical and half jrpg.

marty sears's final puzzle for his sudoku rat run series looks incredibly intimidating, I don't know that I want to sink half a day into it or not yet (the low estimates I've seen have been around 4 hours), but they do tend to be a joy to solve. Something to consider tomorrow probably.

on this 6/7 day, I take a moment of silence for the variant sudoku solvers and mahjong players I sometimes watch for the trials this number has thrust upon them.

maybe one day ill understand how people draw in procreate, but I miss the warm comfort of my tiny wacom and krita (which I sadly can't bring with me while traveling).

the kamiina botan anime is interesting because i feel like at this point i'm watching it purely for the craft and to see what kind of directorial decisions are made each week, since they decided to basically give each episode's director almost free reign.

it may be tdov, but the only place you'll see me is curled up in bed being too sleepy to function.

after doing a ton of physical work I would have assumed that should be able to sleep soundly, right? somehow have been up for over 28 hours instead.

accidentally spilt a ton of rice in a place I couldn't vacuum. after I swept most of it up I started picking them up individually and thought to myself 'this is what being a vampire must really be like'

I made another one. vtubers are just fun to make and I was thinking doing something kinda chibi would be fun. Good way to destress after the rush of making 2 games over the past 4ish months.

Hourlies day! We'll see how much I can do since I'm a little busy working on game jam, but it's always nice to just document stuff.

In the '60s, an all-star team of Soviet artists assembled -- including Yuri Norstein. Together, they crafted a gentle, quiet gem called The Mitten. It's lovely stop motion, and it laid the groundwork for the team's later Cheburashka. We explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/a-film-for...

happy new year! i'm not entirely sure what i want to do for this coming year, but i also had no idea what i wanted to do last year and still ended up having fun (learned godot, learned blender, created my own face tracking plugin for live2d, wrote a short vn, and generally enjoyed making things).

past 2 weeks has been unbeatable + vns and it's been nice. Caught up on soulsov, read zato, and now partway through of the devil (excited to check out episode 2, love serra). Gotta run through them before i get sucked back into one of my own projects i guess.
