Oh. my. gosh. I'm telling Bucha immediately! Love your use of color in this - captures the same warm vibe but also way broader palette than the phone camera could dream of 😄

Portrait of a statue of The Theorist, Jace Beleren, from Magic The Gathering. Over the statue flash fragments of a magical reflection like shattered glass, in it you can see the visage of Jace, happy.

I decided to delete the thread about Jace and Breach. I'm still full of thoughts and feelings regarding interpretation of design, but I see that there are many differing opinions on the matter, so it's best to let it be. I do apologize for spreading my poor mood.

I figured I'd add that to make the whole thing more interesting and enriching.

Liiga Smilshkalne @liiga.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

I expect it must've come up in some way, but in that case I don't understand replicating insignificant but particular flourishes like the one planetoid by the oil stream, some of the specific teeth in the stolons and all that while, at the same time, nudging the shapes around.

Thank you! I'm always happy to share little details like that. And yeah it's a shame the fun of the new card got sullied like that.

Liiga Smilshkalne @liiga.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Thank you Thomas! Well, you see, it depends on how the piece was transformed - metaphorically or mechanically.

I have reached out - it'll probably be a bit before everyone wakes up on that side of the pond

Don't be like that, a lot of work goes into the story and visuals.

It's a collaboration so secret even I didn't know about it! 🫠

It's hard to speak definitely of another artist's process, but the side by side here shows how many of the twists, loops and arbitrary shapes of the teeth are preserved - bsky.app/profile/drki... . Even the tiny planetoid in front of the roots got left in.

Liiga Smilshkalne @liiga.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Err to clarify - don't feel bad 😅

0170

Liiga Smilshkalne @liiga.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Yeah, it's symbolically very strange and messy! We had a lot of guidance of what the parts of Realmbreaker would look like, but the shape of the entire thing was left up to my interpretation. So while I can see the thought process in comparing it to Jace, it doesn't work as a copy.

1180

Liiga Smilshkalne @liiga.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

I'm also terribly curious about what lead to this. It is so.. eugh.

No shame on you for having reasonable expectations of us artists 💖

Bonus: a messy chart explaining the symbolism in my rendition of the Realmbreaker (which I alluded to above). Sploot!

A chart! Text reads: "Tree" (next to a tree) + "Oh no!" (next to a quick sketch of Elesh Norn's monobrow) = "Blooming onion of doom sits above and in front of the trunk" (next to a more twistedly shaped tree).
Then on next row: "Also a leaf. Poplar, of course" (next to a drawing of a leaf and an arrow pointing towards the central element of the twisted tree's crown. Poplars are cruel factories of allergy fuzz), "From the side it's shaped roughly like a sprout" (next to a small drawing of a sprout-like shape) + "Symbolism" (under the Phyrexian symbol) = "Sploot!" (next to the completed shape of the Realmbreaker, now with Phyrexian oil splooting out of its crown. It's a technical term, trust me.)

My illustration of the Realmbreaker so we're all on the same page.

Artists, show how you draw flowers! 💐💐💐 I should draw more flowers.

An itty bitty painting of Elspeth, the planeswalker from Magic: The Gathering, as a white mouse clad in silver armor with golden decorations. She's wearing a white cape and holding a spear that took more than one try to get to look right. Behind her, white sweet peas are arranged in the shape of wings (because Elspeth is an angel) and she's making friends with an orange butterfly.
This is on the back of my Swords to Plowshares artist proof, which also involves sweet peas.
Pencil for scale!

$A digital illustration showing fractal growth pouring out of an opalescent stone egg and then just growing and growing and growing.$ A very green digital painting of a wolf that is biting down on a crane's throat in shallow waters, full of plants. The crane has a koi fish in its beak, and its plucked feathers are turning into more fish that nibble away at the wolf, exposing its skeleton which is overgrown with new plants, forming a spiraling shape. At the very core of the spiral is a nest with five crane eggs.

It's artist proof o'clock again! Painted this lady on the back of my Archdruid's Charm. Explored a whole new type of shinies while at it - tiny opals! They're in her sleeve, tiara and the amulet. You can see them best in the third image.

A 8.3x6.6 cm acrylic painting of an elven lady in voluminous dress with overall floral themes. She's holding her hand around a pretty chonky amulet. Pencil for scale.

A different angle of the same painting, showing off the interference and metallic paints.

Yet another angle, now showing off the opals! Got all of them to flash here, they've got different faces under the gel so they tend to light up at different times. It's fun
