Addendum: This leg also went near my hometown, and I rang the bell on the replica of Casey Jones’ Cannonball locomotive, like I used to do as a kid. Folks I know I’ve been posting a lot about following tMG on tour, but I just got home after a 14 hour drive and am finally looking at photos. This was so bananas important to me. I’ve been doing this for nearly 2 years now but each time I am knocked over by how kind and tight-knit this community is.

This monstrosity has two names, we haven’t decided: the possum king (à la rat king) or the possum chatelaine, since I wear it on my belt, usually. So many little guys. I’ve been loving receiving pictures of them when they all go to their forever homes after the show. Like a possum foster mom.

When the album title first dropped I started looking for historic breadcrumbs not knowing it was a dream-sent title/premise. I found this newspaper excerpt, which, now that I know is unrelated, is somehow cooler. (Peter Christ Balkan, 1890-1936)

A newspaper excerpt from the Sept. 14, 1936 edition of Rhinelander Daily news that is titled “Two, Fishing, Drown.” The body text says “MAHNOMEN, Minn. Sept. 14 - WM Backstrom, Traill county, North Dakota State’s attorney, and Peter E. Balkan, deputy sheriff of the same county, were drowned in Twin Lakes near here Sunday when their fishing boat capsized.”
