Verona, WI has a prominent road named Nine Mound Rd. Suddenly curious about its origins, I went to some old plat maps (1873) showing 9 burial mounds in what is now the campus of Epic. Even better, Lidar maps still reveal some of these mounds very clearly.

"Epic has since protected the rediscovered mounds, and their horticulture team has planted native prairie plants in that area. They are no longer "mounds", but it is good to know that this important and sacred link to Verona's early inhabitants is finally protected."

It seems there's some movement on this issue. Crews are out this morning removing the deteriorating red paint that was installed by Zenith Tech. Unsure if this is being done under the contract's warranty or not. We'll have to see whether the same methyl methacrylate compound will be used again 👀
