Lichens. Definitely lichens.

Young Protoparmeliopsis muralis #lichen can be easily confused with Diploicia canescens - and this was very young one, what you see is barely one cm in size

The #lichen was growing on a top of wooden pole, in fact on the very tip of the pyramidal top of the poke (this photo doesn't quite show the structure). It seems to be Trapeliopsis, possibly T. flexuosa, maybe T. granulosa (they are called 'veenkorst' in Dutch, peat lichens)

My guess would be Athallia holocarpa (ex-Caloplaca holocarpa), aka Firedot #Lichen. They are known as 'muurzonnetjes' in Dutch, literally 'suns of the walls' - but Dutch diminutive suffix '-tje' make it 'tiny suns' (also 'cute suns'), the overtones that are difficult to easily convey in English

A new colony of splitgill mushrooms (Schizophyllum commune) growing on a scorched tree; these are not #lichens, I know :)

A close-up show it's likely Candelaria concolor (coincidentally known as Candleflame #Lichen)

Fortunately there's some good news too - on some trees I spotted what looks like new Candelaria growth. The older lichen seems to be gone, but these tiny yellow lobes look healthy

#Lichen -wise, it's not so positive, though - majority of what I've seen are dead, gone in ashes like this ex-Parmelia

An update from our local heathland, six months after the terrible fire (tinyurl.com/2v6c8kk2). Life is gradually reclaiming the heath back - new green shoots of grass and new shrubs are seen everywhere. Not everything has recovered, but many trees have - we saw new shoots from their bases

This Punctelia #lichen is actually also on the forest floor, growing on a piece of recently fallen branch; seems to be P.subrudecta

A patch of Cladonia #lichen on the damp and mossy autumn forest floor. Possibly C. portentosa (can't rule out C. furcata, though, or other similar 'reindeer' Cladonia's - perhaps there are Jedi here who can)

Dense carpet of small, leaf-like scales of Cladonia #lichen (they are called basal squamules). It's likely Cladonia pyxidata though it could be the usual Cladonia somethingelse. The two objects in the bottom-left corner are a pair of pine needles (also used here for scale)

Cladonia #lichen - and of course I noticed this cute tiny bug (Acalypta parvula, or Moss Lacebug) only at home, when working with the image :( The bug is sitting at the base of the lichen stalk, in the lower-left corner; in Dutch they are called 'mosnetwants' - moss net bugs

Too much stress at my 'real' work (lichen is a hobby); or too much stress from too little work - the flow of projects has declined drastically this year :( Still try to take pics of #lichen - fewer, but still. I actually find much consolation in it; just don't share them here lately #Cladonia

Some #lichens from the burn heide (bsky.app/profile/lich...); not sure if they survived the fire or not, need to visit the site again and take better pics

Our nearest - and most beloved - heathland (heide in Dutch), almost entirely burned after the recent fires caused by military training. One of the ways war knocks at our door, not with explosions (yet), but as a scorched landscape where we used to have lovely walks just yesterday

Every time when I take pictures of decent (=easily ID-able) lichens on stones, I later regret not taking out a loupe - there is almost always another lichen (or a few) lurking nearby. Same here: I noticed only Lecanora (bsky.app/profile/lich...) but at home spotted another lichen - Sarcogyne I guess

The lid of a plastic garbage container is dotted with lichens that skilfully use its reinforcing ribs and curves as footholds; mostly Physcia this time

Lichens almost completely covered the painted meal tube; mainly Xanthoria, with a few other species mixed in

About the limits of my skills: whatever I try, it still looks like a dark, inconspicuous spot on a stone. I guess it’s Verrucaria #lichen (V. nigrescens ?); adding a close-up pic

Licheomancy™ @licheomancy.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
#Lichen potpourri: The bright orange is likely Sidewalk Firedot Lichen (Xanthocarpia), the whitish-rim apothecia are probably of Myriolecis (M. dispersa). There is an interesting lichen in the upper-left corner - Catillaria? As always, there were more (plus Verrucaria; Verrucaria is always nearby)

A small, twisted tree with unusually long branches, almost completely clothed in lichens, as a kind of old laced dress. There are, of course, many lichens at work here, but the most dominant in this case is Hypotrachyna (mainly H. revoluta from what I've seen)

#Lichen -wise, it seems to be Hypotrachyna, possibly H. afrorevoluta. But when I looked more carefully back at home, the main question became WHAT THE BEETLE? Know very little about beetles, it looks like one of the 'click beetles' (Elateridae), but I can’t narrow down much further

Cladonia #lichen, may be C. squamosa or C. digitata, such squamule clumps are typical for many species. My question was more about these bright orange patches I found nearby. I’m not sure if these are signs of infection or just normal aging. Or reaction to extremely dry weather we have lately?
