It’s not that it is easier to travel in Europe, there’s just more interest in traveling. And governments heavily invest in public transportation including high speed rails between major cities, vs just adding more roads.

You are comparing individual countries in Europe to the USA as a whole. You should compare how easy it is to travel between states in the US va countries in Europe. Remember that the Schengen treaty is only 35 years old and the Euro only 25.

I would call that fraud.

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
So is Europe. In fact Europa is bigger than the USA. It’s simply the fact that there is no investment in public transportation

Good food is cheap in Germany. Yes, tap water is usually better than bottled water. I believe there are regulations that selling tap water is not allowed.

Selling drinks, including water, is a major revenue stream for European restaurants. It’s a cultural thing. No free water. You want water, you pay for it. In the IS I get free water that tastes like swimming pool water. No thanks. I much rather pay for decent water.

There is no GP availability during evening/night pushing people towards ED. GP appointments can take long. ED should only be for emergencies. Go to the ED for a non-emergency? Pay a penalty out-of-pocket. A change of mentality/approach is needed

Prices are inflated to begin with. Second, that still doesn’t void that young people avoid going to the doctor sooner, because they can’t pay the bills.

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Also other nations don’t limit drug prices, they negotiate as a whole country.
000
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They did not object price caps of lowering drug prices in general. They objected Trump’s implementing, which was very likely not enforceable.

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
What you’re also missing out is that general access to healthcare allows people to go to the doctor sooner. Thus preventing later, more expensive treatments. Universal healthcare should also allow cheaper prices for drugs. Drugs in the USA cost 4-6x what they cost in other developed countries.

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
And how much for veterans affairs? Because that would be part of universal healthcare
200
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I am arguing that the total cost of current employer + employee contributions are less than what universal healthcare would cost

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They don’t (all) become your wages. But they pay for the universal healthcare.

Oh, you forget the arrogance and hubris of USians. There is no country better than the US, therefore whatever is the standard in the US must be the standard everywhere. The amount of times I heard US tourists complain there’s no free refill, free water, ranch dressing, …

That’s the upside down world. It’s not people not reaching public transportation. It’s public transportation not reaching the people.

And how much do individuals currently pay for insurance? And how much do companies currently contribute?
200
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It takes a long time to see a specialist even on regular insurance. There’s a huge shortage of doctors/specialists in CA

Because again it’s the winner takes all. You brought up gerrymandering, which is a direct consequence of winner-takes-all.

There’s many hidden taxes in the US, but they deliberately don’t call them taxes. Instead they’re called ‘registration’ (car/road tax), Mello-Roos (additional property tax), and service fees. When adding those all up, the US really isn’t the low-tax country they claim it is.

Regular people? I thought the constitution started with “We the people…” What are all these amendments for? Why do you vote? Why don’t you drag your ‘representatives’ out and hold them accountable?
000
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
That doesn’t matter, because individual votes don’t count. It’s the counties that count. Just like the electoral college counts, not the popular vote.

But but but … FREEDOM!! Car is the ultimate freedom!! As a result you must have a car and are a slave to the car/petrol industry. So much for freedom.
010
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
So? That’s part of the US winner-take all county system. Proportional representation would be a better choice. But ‘would be’ doesn’t count, because the current system matters.

The whole world is suffering. And the US population either thinks it’s only them or they don’t care about the rest of the world. Even worse, they blame the rest of the world for the problems they themselves created.

There’s one driving around here with that exact same message. I have strong opinions about that message.

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
In the US winner-takes-all county system. Why does that matter?

A mayor is a major political figure. If Trump is hurting their towns/cities, then where is their outrage? Where is their collective anger towards Trump’s policies? No press conferences. No public message of resistance. Excuses, and cowardice.

We will see in 30 days. 30% of the US citizens are blatantly racist and strongly support Trump. Republicans will get more than 30% of the seats though, which means there’s an additional percentage of the US citizenry who loves the total destruction. This is what the US tells the world.
100
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
No? Why aren’t they screaming Trump’s politics are killing their towns?

Yup, supplement it with interior workspaces from Sortima, Alycia, or Bott and you have a mobile workspace. In the US they throw everything on a pile in the bed of the pickup. Just looks highly unprofessional.

Most modern cars have little lights that turn on when you’re making a corner. Same effect.

Yup, they just cut&paste the video to make it look like they’re the heroes. It’s plain propaganda.

Had a sales guy trying to sell me a pickup. I asked “does it fit a full size sheet of plywood?” He looked like I asked for the moon. Got a minivan instead; fits multiple sheets, easily accessible, and kept dry.

A social democracy is a capitalist system. However, it is bounded/guarded such that it works for the greater group. Social here means the greater group/society. This typically means higher taxes which pay for social services like education, healthcare, paternity leave, childcare, etc.

What? When has Israel attacked a NATO country then?

For Hungary or Türkiye, whom both are NATO members?

You are confusing Orbàn (ex-premier of Hungary) with Erdoğan (president of Türkiye)
100
Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Hungary didn’t because Orbàn is Trump before Trump. He is a right-extremist that likes Russia and loves Netanyahu and Trump.

Both nuclear bombs on Japan were unnecessary. A human atrocity. Truman dropped them to impress Stalin.

You are right. The ICC relies on its members to honor their commitments. Hungary violated that, for example, by allowing Netanyahu to visit, despite there being an ICC arrest warrant. Any contract or agreement is as solid as the paper it is written on.

Tedious Soapbox @lichaat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
ICC warrants overrule diplomatic immunity. Putin didn’t travel to South Africa, because of the risk of being arrested.
