Food is a right, not a privilege. We know many members of our reading community, including our bookselling partners, will be impacted ❤️ Here's how to help, and where to find help.

Food is a right not a privilege. With SNAP expiring, here's how to help and where to get help.

SNAP—the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program—will not be going out November 1st, leaving 42 million individuals without benefits to supplement their food income. We know this will impact many of our readers and bookselling partners.

Here's how you can help: 🫶🏻 Donate money or time to your local food bank, so they can keep your community fed. ❤️ Add food into free pantries, or start your own. ☎️ Contact your representatives at a local and state level to urge them to restore and fund SNAP and WIC. 🫂 Contribute to and get involved in mutual aid groups

And where to get help: 🥫 Many food banks are preparing for an increase in aid. They are here to help your community. 🥡 Visit a free pantry near you for shelf-stable products. 🍲 Many local businesses are offering free meals for those on SNAP. Ask around to see who is participating. 🛒 Companies like Gopuff and DoorDash are offering groceries to impacted individuals

Libro.fm and 40+ organizations representing parents, grassroots organizers, authors, librarians, booksellers, and publishers have signed a statement on the firing of Dr. Carla Hayden. 📣 Share & act now 📧 bit.ly/EmailHayden

Slides with a teal background. Copy reads: We condemn the unjust firing of Dr. Carla Hayden, who has served as Librarian of Congress since 2016. Dr. Hayden’s firing is an assault on our freedoms to access and pursue knowledge.

Slide with a teal background. Copy reads: Dr. Hayden has been a trailblazer, bringing new energy, joy, and perspective to the esteemed role. She was the first woman and the first African American to serve in the role. In the time she has served, she has been markedly respected for her impartial effectiveness and for opening the Library’s resources to all Americans.

Slide with a team background. Copy reads: Now, Dr. Hayden becomes the first Librarian of Congress to be forced out since the 19th century for no other reason than to undermine the foundational principles of our democracy and erode public trust in our most robust institutions.
