Book 49 of 2026 #Booksky He still knows the score... This was tremendous fun, metafictional antics in the same vein as 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' (which for me is amongst AM's best work).

The cover of Alan Moore's fantasy novel 'The Great When'.

Was bored with work, wanted to do something rewarding, I volunteer a few hours once a month for a charity. It's amazing. A boring Fess, but it is rewarding. Just do something good for someone, it will make you and more importantly someone else feel better. Do it, please.

Very true. My current school has been a real journey over the last 2 and a bit years - almost like re-learning how to be a teacher all over again.

Thankfully, we had kids before I started teaching... Impossible naming them after!

As a teacher, I will never now be surprised at how unimaginative/cruel parents can be when naming their children. Christian and surnames NEVER need to rhyme.

Book 48 of 2026 Full of heart and packed with detail, I enjoyed this very much. A hymn to kindness and the value of nature and the real (as opposed to virtual) world. #Booksky

I've read most of them, am savouring the rest and not reading them all too quickly. They are terrific.

Enjoyed the Resident Evil film very much: funny, gory and very much in the spirit of the games. The perfect antidote to a tricky day at school.

Yikes. I'm not sure I'd read another of his just yet. What also struck me were the acknowledgements at the end, which went on somewhat. Nice to thank people... but 10 pages?

I know what you mean - felt a bit of a slog at times. It's awkwardly written, and that did come close to putting me off. But I'm glad I persevered.

Yeah, I'm increasingly of the same opinion. I'm baffled that Reform seem to think publicising this would be a vote winner. Makes them look more sleazy imo.

Book 47 of 2026 #Booksky A 19th century vampire novel set against the backdrop of the native American genocide. Extraordinarily gruesome, and some killer lines about America as a country born out of blood and conflict.

Also really good at showing the afterlife of Friedrich's work (an inspiration for the original Disney 'Bambi', apparently), and how peripatetic art can be - never still, always moving from place to place.

Book 46 of 2026 #Booksky I love Friedrich's paintings but knew almost nothing about his life, so this did a great job of filling in some gaps. Great analysis of his work, too.

Off the top of my head, six great things: - decent pint of bitter - Velazquez' painting Las Meninas - 'A Tale of Two Cities' by Charles Dickens - crosswords (and puzzles of all kinds) - Autumn twilights - cheese, wine and good bread

Then the film had a bit of a renaissance locally in the early 90s, and I remember going to a few showings with pals which were all about the interaction. Like the best kind of adult pantomime.
