Blackstone owns everything from Ancestry.com to Tricon Residential, whose CEO was on 60 minutes discussing his part in the Housing crisis and skyrocketing prices. The governing Ontario PCs enabled Tricon to avoid rent control laws by creating tenancy laws that specifically benefitted Tricon.

Tomorrow is voting day in a highly consequential election and the choice is clear. Canada needs a majority government. Canada has many political parties but only one can hold a majority. Liberals are best positioned to manage Canadians’ priorities. Vote red! #electionscanada #cdnpoli #ItsOurVote

Poilievre speaks about his mom who gave him up for adoption to two teachers, one of whom came out as gay when he was a teen. His Dad was planning to get married to a man when Pierre voted against equal marriage the second time. He brought his Dad to watch the vote from the House of Commons gallery.

The scenario I just described isn’t much different from our current situation, except the NDP would lose party status while still holding the balance of power. If no party reaches 172 seats it will either be the Bloc or NDP that takes one of the two parties over the majority threshold.

libéral @liberalparty.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
Not saying they would be better off but they would be very relevant because regardless of whether they have party status, in that one scenario they would hold the balance of power. It’s too soon to say whether the seat count will be anything close to the numbers i just threw out there to you though.

So long as we have a Westminster democracy, we won’t have a two party system but we do have a two-governing party system already, as only the two have ever formed government. The NDP are what prevents us from becoming entirely two party, our current minority seat count is a good example of how.

Sorry your post wasn’t clear, the unite the right efforts by Harper were actually the effort he made to merge the three right parties, Reform, PC and Alliance. Hence why your post seemed to suggest a merger of NDP and Liberal parties wholly.

libéral @liberalparty.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
Let’s say the seat count is 165 liberal, 130 Conservative, 2 Green, 34 Bloc and 7 NDP. Yes they would lose party status but they would still hold the balance of power. That wouldn’t be a two party system at all as the NDP becomes quite relevant. But there is no sense in joining forces at this point.

The latest polling shows the NDP winning approximately 7 seats nationally. There is little to no advantage of combining the two even on an individual riding basis never mind nationally to combine the parties wholly.

Not going to happen, nor would you want it to. We would end up with a 2-party system like the USA which is largely why they are so dysfunctional.

Ruby Dhalla is entitled to her opinion. That sentiment, spoken by anyone, isn’t likely one shared by the majority of Liberal party members. Due process is important here, it acts like a nanny for fairness and equality in the leadership race, and ultimately it will determine who prevails.

Our Parliamentary Guards should not be taken for granted. They truly stand on guard for thee and should have the full force of the Government of Canada behind them as they do their job. Anybody who intends to test them should be penalized accordingly, not pardoned from legitimate 18 year sentences.

Are all of the provinces now considering signing on to a constitution given that it has actually never happened, and technically it is a requirement for them to do so in order for the constitution to be valid?

Donald Trump has been attacking our Prime Minister because he wants PP as PM, he sees PP as the weaker link and an easier target to get what he wants - to acquire Canada.

Jagmeet Singh says a lot of words that mean little. If it weren’t for the relationship the NDP had with the Liberals, the laundry list of NDP “must have’s” were passed in the House. Now, even if a progressive leader is chosen and wants to collaborate further, Jagmeet will vote no. And then what?

libéral @liberalparty.bsky.social · 06/01/2025
It has been an unfortunate standard that when one Liberal leader steps down, the next does not contact the previous — ever. No advice. No questions. This pattern must be broken. Whomever follows our honourable PM should ask him questions, rely on him for advice, and demonstrate similar diplomacy.

Canadians who think a Conservative Government is better at fiscal management are ill-advised. It was Liberals who held Stephen Harper’s feet to the fire in the 2008 financial crisis, forcing necessary stimulus spending to kickstart our economy. PP voted Nay & almost lost government as a result.

libéral @liberalparty.bsky.social · 04/01/2025
PP’s interview with Jordan Peterson, ultra conservative and former professor at U of T, was an obnoxious national disgrace. PP wants to ‘bring back free enterprise by slashing regulations.’ He forgets that regulations aren’t there to take away freedoms, they protect us from descending into chaos.

With artificial intelligence rapidly expanding in Canadian workplaces, we need to prepare as a nation for inevitable, significant job displacement. PP doesn’t support a basic income of any kind, but ideology won’t help as the number of Canadians seeking Employment Insurance becomes unsustainable.

Kevin O’Leary may play a mean game of Monopoly, but he won’t get past Go trying to merge Canada and the United States. He doesn’t speak for Canadians. Whatever PP’s position is, in Canada there is no Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card for any leader who commits treason, acting against the national interest.

Pensions are hardly secure. Childcare is on shaky ground, health care is always work in progress and is used as a tool by the provinces which makes it difficult to shout about from the mountaintops, dental needs to expand more before most will see a benefit, Pharmacare is barely out of the gate.

Your point is not lost, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made and Russian interference was a significant threat to FPTP changes — interference that was not known at the time the commitments were made. Canadians learned of this and graciously gave a second mandate in 2019 and a third in 2021.

With Elon Musk’s new role in Donald Trump’s incoming administration, president-elect Trump is very generous to step back and elevate Canadian-educated Musk to the prominent role of acting Commander-in-Chief-unelect. We can discuss welcoming Premier Trump and the USA as our 11th to 60th provinces.

He didn’t lie. He set the electoral reform agenda when ran for PM in 2015. Then Russia meddled in the 2016 US election and there was strong indication Russia was attempting the same in Canada. Electoral reform is a delicate issue, and it became no longer feasible to open up that can of worms atm.

South of the border, a politician was elected for a second term after circumstances that previously made a politician unelectable. When LPC collapsed in 2006, it took a decade of Harper before voters had enough. 2 years of PP may be difficult to stomach for most, but it is not unimaginable.

The latest call from the NDP creates a unique Canadian moment to further partner on major social issues, or go to the polls and accept the results of the next election. We already have a Liberal government, and New Democrats can’t be excited by the notion of PP as PM, so the choice seems clear.
