We recently scrutinised the new Culture strategy in Brent There were clear gaps with no recognition of the role planning, nuisance and licensing need to play I've asked the council to include this & recommended they review the Local Music Action Charter by UK Music

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 28/09/2026

Recently on Community & Welbeing Scrutiny committee I challenged officers on whether they were measuring the right things when tackling youth crime I will continue to make sure that the council is laser focused on what matters to support young people & help residents feel safe

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 20/09/2026

Local councils can make or break the music industry The industry is under huge pressure from rising costs, venue closures, brexit, cuts to music education, AI - but also callous councils who act without care for this important sector We all need to do our part to save the future of music

"Quibbling" is not the word I wanted to use at the end of this speech - but what I wanted to say was not suitable for the council chamber. We had a plan to stay below 1.5 degrees of warming. We have failed - because too many politicians have worried about the short term cost.

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 18/09/2026

A year ago I forced the council leader to write to the Mayor's office about the service on the Picadilly line. This week I asked if he had followed up on the (long delayed) inadequate response. The answer was no. We will keep pushing for an improved service on the Picadilly line

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 17/09/2026

Instead of considering what actually needs debating in Brent, the Labour group just recycled a motion from 12 months ago, expressing support for the West London Orbital To do it once was performative. Doing it twice is a waste of council time. Brent Residents deserve better

Progress today on the project to tackle ASB on the canal. A joint effort between Friends of the Grand Union, CRT, McConnells, the Council and myself. We are putting in fences to block the most popular drinking spots on the canal - ahead of planting 100s of new bushes in Nov

Yet again a fair voting system has prevented the far right taking absolute power. Still terryifing to see this happen in Germany, but if this happened here with our voting system Reform would be in power. We need a fair voting system in this country www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Another morning clearing the rubbish from our stretch of the Canal with some wonderful local volunteers - part of the Friends of the Grand Union. #volunteering #grandunioncanal #localcouncillor #politiciansofinstagram #flytipping

Not all Reform voters are racist. But when the party allows comments like this from its leadership with no consequences. Then the party is racist. If YOU are reading this thinking " I vote reform and I am not racist", then just take a hard look at the party you are supporting

We are into yet another heatwave. Too many people still think that Net Zero will bankrupt us. The truth is the impact of climate change will cost far more. The first job of government protecting its people. A Reform or Tory Government would surrender us all to Climate Change

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 21/07/2026

There are so many reasons why Farage's stories about his £5m don't add up. It's epic scale gaslighting. Honestly, its a complete joke. I hope @countbinface.bsky.social beats him - it would be a fitting end to his career. #countbinface #farage #reformuk #donation #ukpolitics #clactonbyelection

Meeting with Canal and River Trust, Friends of the Grand Union and McConnells to discuss our joint effort to block anti-social behaviour hotspots on the canal. In five words: More nature, fewer beer cans. #localcouncillor #biodiversity #solutions #grandunioncanal

We do need to get more young people into work, education or training - no question. But as with every other problem, the right wing are blaming migrants. Recently they're claiming that 27 young, non-EU migrants are getting hired for every young Brit. Here's why its not true

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 10/07/2026

Visiting ASB hotspots today to discuss solutions with officers. Honestly ridiculous volume of beer cans. More meetings next week. My fellow councillors and I will not stop looking for real solutions across education, licensing, and enforcement. #asb #localcouncillor #brent

Another day campaigning in a heatwave - 35 degrees today. Oof. Kudos to people from all parties out today (in any by-election), but obviously rooting for Alex here in Streatham - the best choice ! #byelection #climatechange #heatwave #localcouncillor #politics

Yesterday I successfully moved an amendment to a Conservative motion on SCIL is allocation to force the cabinet to consider allocating SCIL to fixing roads and pavements Getting a grip on our roads and pavements is good for all residents - and will save the council money in the long run

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 07/07/2026

Since I got elected I have been pushing for CIL funding to be properly invested by the council NCIL in particular is meant to be allocated based on where it was raised & most other boroughs give their councillors a say on spending in their ward. This has not been happening in Brent🧵 1/2

Another morning helping residents clear out their old / broken furniture. Community skips are a good service - but even when its right on their doorstep some of our elderly residents just cannot move these items by themselves. #politics #localcouncillor #libdems #helpinghand

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 29/06/2026

I got into politics to move our country forward - to build a modern, progressive country But the fight we are having is to stop the right wing from unravelling progress already made. Workers rights, human rights, equal rights, free press, progress to net zero & more. Don't let them - get involved

020

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 25/06/2026

Some observations from canvassing in Acton... most obviously - whoever becomes next Labour leader definitely has their work cut out to restore faith - both in their own party, but also politics itself. #politics #byelection #fixpolitics #andyburnham

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 25/06/2026

Flying the flag in 31 degree heat in the Acton By-election today I got into politics because of Climate Change originally so I find campaigning in an extreme heatwave oddly motivating - and I fear we will all have to get used to it #politics #libdems #byelection #climatechange

The people telling you immigrants are the problem are preventing us from discussing the real solutions for healthcare, housing and more. Yes, people believe immigration is a problem. But the right response is not to pander to that narrative - it's to challenge it

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 22/06/2026

Starmer is out and this has to be the final straw. We need to fix politics so that governments have an actual mandate. We need a fair voting system. You can help - Take our survey asking "Is Politics Working?" to send a message to our next PM: digitallibdems.typeform.com/fix-politics

043

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 22/06/2026

Immigration or bust. An ageing population means we need more funds to cover healthcare, social care and pensions - but we have a smaller number of working people to pay for it (relatively). If we want to avoid a financial death spiral - we cannot shut the door on immigration.

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 15/06/2026

Reform do not care how many immigrants are arriving - that's just an excuse. They care about those already here. They want to end settled status They want a Trump-style I.C.E agency And they regularly stoke hatred - leading to race riots Anyone who is not "white British" is at risk.

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 11/06/2026

Despite everything the government, the Tories & Farage have done - Asylum seekers keep on coming - because anything is better than what they have left behind. Britain is still seen a place that they can rebuild their lives - and that is something to be proud of. #smallboats #refugees

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 22/05/2026

Brent Labour, led by Cllr Butt, got the backing of only 10% of residents in this local election - due to their poor performance, and low turnout Despite this Labour & Tories have done a stitch up to keep Cllr Butt as leader. It's no wonder people are losing faith in politics.

020

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 06/05/2026

Local elections should be about local government. Some parties what to distract you from what actually matters: who will do the work. Lib Dems win more councillors every year, win more by-elections, and defend more seats - because we actually deliver for people. #votelibdem

021

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 16/04/2026

Fly tipping, harrassment, beer cans by the hundreds, e-bikes & scooters on the towpath, not enough lighting - walking along the canal should be a pleasure - but its badly impacted by all sorts of anti-social behaviour. Liberal Democrats are cleaning it up: get involved - get in touch!

042

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 08/03/2026

Canvassing in Sudbury today - good conversations with residents ... and of course reporting issues as we find them !

Time for my monthly shift on canal clean up duty up with some of my wonderful neighbours. There are volunteers out every week in our area for anyone who wants to join ! Just drop me a DM.

011

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 29/01/2026

Labour have confirmed they have no intention of ending Leasehold: their new bill says ground rents will only change to a peppercorn after 40 years(!) Liberal Democrats will keep fighting to end leasehold. If you are disappointed by Labour - join the Lib Dems. (Resharing a previous speech!)

With International Law is crumbling under pressure we need people to speak up so that our Government knows we care If you think that what Iran is doing is horrific, & that we should do our part to help Iranians who manage to flee - don't be silent. Share, post, email your MP - just don't be silent

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 18/01/2026

Dumped Mattress, broken sign, potholes and more all reported this evening. Every little helps but really we just need a whole new approach - and that will not happen unless we can get more Liberal Democrats elected in Brent. #Votelibdem

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 18/01/2026

Sometimes it's the little things The bollard here had been broken for months - cars were hitting the curb because they couldn't see it A resident pointed it out while I was doorknocking. I followed up with the council and it has been replaced #Votelibdem if you want politicians who do the work

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 17/01/2026

Great afternoon In Wembley Central with Luke Taylor MP and our three excellent candidates. Daniel, Heta and Chirag I myself saw some pretty horrific proof of why Brent needs more councillors who actually do the work. There are always issues which have just gone ignored for years #Votelibdem

011

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 11/01/2026

Out and about talking to residents and cleaning up our area yesterday... as we went around we reported : 1. Fly tips 2. Subsidence in the Abbey estate green space 3. Street drinkers with an open fire So much work to do - the Labour run council is just failing to get on top of so many issues.

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 12/11/2025

Great to be out campaigning with Assembly member @Hinabokharild.bsky.social yesterday. There are so many Labour voters saying they are looking for a new home - and we can offer that home.

010

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 11/11/2025

It was a privilege to play the Last Post at the Hampstead Remembrance day ceremony. I said it before and I will say it again: it has never been more important to remember the lessons of the past.

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 09/11/2025

Remembering all of those who fought for our country - and more importantly than ever before , what they were fighting for. We must never forget or we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 07/11/2025

Great to meet some of our fantastic London Fire fighters this week. We hear so much about how slow the pace of change has been since Grenfell - and more change is needed. But it was good to hear how the LFB are upgrading their gear to deal with larger tower block fires. Absolutely vital.

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 05/11/2025

We really need to get these gates moved up to the edge of the pavement. The council created a whole series of perfect drinking / dumping spots which are not covered by the Veolia street cleaning contract. Time to clean up and design out the problem!

021

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 02/10/2025

Horrified and hugely concerned about the attack in Manchester today. Any attack on any group based on their religion, race or belief must be utterly condemned by all. And to my Jewish friends today - my heart goes out to you , and I hope you & your families are safe and well.

000

Cllr Charlie Clinton @libdemcharlie.com · 20/09/2025

This last week the Brent Tories called for the council to release data on hotel usage for Asylum seekers in Brent. Liberal Democrats including myself very loudly said no. We must stop pandering to the narrative that immigrants - are in anyway part of the problem and put the blame where it belongs.
