My growing fondness for Charli D’Amelio was an unexpected twist in my final lap of TikTok. I’d never seen her on my FYP before—my oldish, queer, autistic ass was not her target demographic. But then she joined & Juliet in October, and honestly? She’s been CHARMING.

At 23, I dated an unkind man who hated my overalls. His unhappiness felt like emotional danger, so I stopped wearing them. After leaving him two years later, donning overalls became an act of defiance and a way of asserting my agency - even if no one else understood that. I still love wearing them.

My Letterboxd review of Hot Frosty, everyone.

Text from review: This was one of the first movies I watched after I stopped dissociating from pain, so it was VISCERAL, and I am not sure about the exact date, but what I know is that I was able to describe multiple VERY INTENSE plot points to my partner weeks after watching in vivid detail as well as the whole general story arc in a way that made him want to watch it and have a million questions, which is generally a sign of a movie I have a ton of affection for. This is absurd and goofy and the conceit frankly breaks my brain a little to think about, but if you are a Christmas Rom-Com person who does not mind yours a little self-aware, you will possibly love this in the same way I did - like ABSORBED and WHAT DID I WATCH and I NEED TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS.

One of the things that has been sweetest about healing from BDD this year is being able to see my resemblance to these three people. I am grateful to be able to see my father’s face in my own now, and seeing the face of people he loved, even if I never knew them, is precious to me.
