As part of the #digitization of the zoological collections at @leibnizlib.bsky.social, our student assistant Hannah is scanning whole specimens mounted on non-standard #microscope slides using custom-designed, #3D-printed adapters. 🔬
A student assistant operates a slide scanner at a computer workstation. The monitor displays a high-resolution image of a microscope specimen, while the scanner stands beside the desk.Hands place a non-standard microscope slide into a custom-designed, 3D-printed adapter that fits into the scanner's slide holder. Two non-standard microscope slides are secured in custom 3D-printed adapters mounted in the scanner tray, ready for digitization.A close-up of the slide scanner as microscope objectives scan a specimen mounted in a custom 3D-printed adapter.

Robin (@robinslnr.bsky.social) is acquiring data from a #Hyla specimen for the second part of his doctoral project using episcopic #microtomy and mounting selected sections on slides for #histology. Reconstruction of muscle #evolution ahead. 🐸🐸🐸

Testing #high-speed videography with @dagmarazyla.bsky.social to capture wing-folding in rove #beetles (#Staphylinidae). Some specimens seem to be too shy in front of the camera, but a few are quite good actors. Maybe this will develop into a student project 🙂

Emanuel (@emanuelp1990.bsky.social), a guest scientist of the LIB Crustacea Collection in Hamburg, is doing some #CT scans of deep-sea #isopods. He wants to visualize soft tissue to explore the anatomy of the reproductive systems in deep-sea species.

Playing with propagation-based phase contrast in #microCT scans to visualize soft tissue without contrast staining in jumping #spiders 🕷️🕷️🕷️ Sure no great image quality achieved, but good enough to measure internal structures of the eyes with @jadethurlow.bsky.social & @mherberstein.bsky.social

Robin (@robinslnr.bsky.social) is doing some #CT scans of #Xenopus tadpoles with different contrast stainings to visualize soft tissue and skeletal structures in the developing forelimb. Many thanks to @kruthsatz.bsky.social for providing the specimens! 🐸

Jade (@jadethurlow.bsky.social) is visiting to image and study jumping spiders. Many hours at the Keyence and some critical point drying and CT scanning to explore the relationship between morphological features, such as eye diameter and femur length. 🕷️
