In celebration of pi day, I’m excited to share that my next book—Hidden Numbers: Mathematical Thinking in the Bible and Beyond—is under contact with the Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library! It’ll be a few years before it’s out, but I look forward to sharing slices of the project in the meantime.

why is this mayoral election different than all other mayoral elections? in all other mayoral elections, we get to see andrew cuomo lose but once. but in this mayoral elections, we get to see him lose *twice*.

Our search for a tenure-track colleague in Early Christianity continues! (Last year’s search was among those canceled due to budgetary uncertainty.) This search is at the assistant professor level. More details in the linked description below; review of applications begins on September 30.

Sometimes the strangest opportunities arise, and this was one of them. Last week, Wright Thompson invited me to a Red Sox/Yankees game to talk about ancient sacrifice for his piece on Aaron Judge. Sadly, he left out the fact that I showed up in Red Sox gear!

It has been an honor for my English edition of P to be included in the World Literature in Translation series at UC Press, not least because it makes this important text accessible and affordable, especially for classroom contexts. I was very excited when they were also willing to publish the Hebrew text and have been working with proofreaders and production on the ebook.

However, when I received the print editions last week, I was surprised to see that the Hebrew section had been paginated left to right. After following up with the press, I was informed that this was the only way they were able to print the book. Unfortunately, this was not communicated to me earlier in the process. Nevertheless, I am pleased that this paperback remains very affordable ($24.95).

Please note that this is not a problem with the ebook, which is available in PDF format ($24.95).
