Äärioikeisto juhlii salissa huutaen ”Send them back”, kun perinteinen oikeisto on juuri äänestänyt läpi heidän kanssaan paluuasetuksen. Näin annetaan Euroopan äärioikeistolle merkittävä voitto ennen tulevien vuosien Euroopan kannalta kriittisiä vaaleja. Taas surullinen päivä ihmisoikeuksille.

Tällä viikolla edustamassa EU-parlamenttia YK:n kokouksessa kaikille YK:n vammaisten henkilöiden oikeuksia koskevan yleissopimuksen osapuolille. Tämä on tähän asti ensimmäinen ja ainoa ihmisoikeussopimus, jonka myös EU on ratifioinut.

Synkkä päivä unionissa taas, kun kokoomuksen EPP liittoutui laita- ja äärioikeiston kanssa palautuskeskusten perustamiseksi, säilöönoton pidentämiseksi ja siirtolaisten oikeuksien heikentämiseksi. Laita- ja äärioikeisto juhlii seisaaltaan salissa, niin iso voitto tämä oli heille.

The last visit of the trip was at the Portland Food Cafe and Food Support Centre at Portland Row. They have developed a model for adressing food poverty which means moving away from the old food banking system into one based on dignity and lifting people out of the support need.

During our EMPL visit in Ireland, we have had the opportunity for exchanges with several ministers and members of Parliment. Addressing child poverty and the massive housing crisis is high on the agenda, as well as improvement of the rights and situation of persons with disabilities.

Not only the most vulnerable but also a big part of the middle class is struggling with making ends meet, Europe is heading towards a ”K-shaped” society. Pessimism and lack of trust is very high, with potentially hugh societal consequences. An ambitious social agenda is urgently needed.

Perussuomalaisten eli Tynkkysen ryhmä EU-parlamentissa päätti tänään isosti nostaa esille omaa abortinvastaisuuttaan. Todella vastenmielistä. Naisten itsemäärämisoikeuden lisäksi kyseinen ryhmä vastustaa myös äänekkäästi ja näkyvästi sukupuoli- ja seksuaalivähemmistöjen oikeuksia.

Tänään parlassa on keskusteltu kilpailukyvystä. Komissio on tehnyt historiallisen virheen kun se on keskittynyt vain sääntelynpurkuun, jättäen kaikki muut kilpailukykyasiat vailla huomiota. Draghin pääviesti oli investointien valtava tarve, tästä ei edes puhuta. Vielä on aikaa muuttaa suunta.
